Bare Minerals Invisible Glow Highlighting Powders

If I had to pick a high end brand other than Urban Decay to be my favourite it would definitely be BareMinerals. There is very little that I’ve tried from BareMinerals that I didn’t like and because of that I have quite a few of their products within my cosmetics collection. Recently I picked up their Invisible Glow powders because ever since I discovered the soft illuminator from the L.O.V Fall Collection 2017 I have been hooked on subtle highlights for my complexion. It just looks so pretty and natural and soft.

There are two shades available in the range and the first shade is the lightest of the two. It’s called Fair to Light and is a white pearl-scent shade with peach shimmer running very, very subtly through it. The powder is very finely milled and on the face it blends out seamlessly without any harsh lines. The shimmer isn’t chunky but lovely and soft almost candle lit glow like. If I was to compare this to anything currently on the market I would say it’s very similar to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.

The second shade is called Medium and is definitely darker in colour than the previous shade. This is very much a peach toned highlighter but again because it’s so softly and finely milled it looks very subtle on the skin. I personally like taking this down a bit onto my cheek bones because I find the colour of it warms up my skintone whilst adding a nice glow to it overall.

These compacts currently retail for 30 euros each and I picked mine up from Debenhams Ireland who tend to do discount offers of 10-15% of makeup on a monthly basis so you can pick up this compact for less than 30 for sure.

Gosh Lumi Drops

I feel like this kind of a product should have been invented long before now but it seems makeup is still progressing slow depending on the trends that are occurring from time to time. Strobing and contouring are two trends that have surfaced in the beauty industry these past two years, mostly due to the crazy makeup techniques of Kim Kardashian. I personally don’t like contour, especially on myself. Sometimes I do apply it on people when doing their makeup but that all depends on their actual face shape and of course some people say they want contour. I do however love strobing, and for those of you who don’t know what strobing is it’s simply another word for highlighting your face until it glows like the moon.

Many brands have brought out their versions of liquid highlighters, some of which I have already reviewed (check out the category; highlighters). Most of they can be used as primer, mixed in with foundation or  applied directly on the areas of the face you wish to highlight. Some of the formulations are amazing and work incredibly well but the Gosh Lumi Drops have recently caught my eye because of the way they’re designed for use.

This highlighter comes in this tiny plastic bottle that has a pipette style tip for dispensing the highlighter. You’re to add the highlighter only to another product (be it foundation, an oil, moisturiser, primer) and mix it in. I love that you can choose whatever base you like and make it instantly more luminous just by adding a drop of this. If you want a really intense highlighter you can definitely mix this with another liquid highlighter.

I got mine in the shade 004 Peach though there are other shades in the range. This shade is a nice soft pearlescent coral shade that warms up the complexion while adding radiance. I personally mix this in with my foundation, and love using it with thicker formulations as it makes them more slippery and hence easier to work with.

The brand Gosh isn’t as easy to find anymore and I think it’s because the brand is getting a re-branding done but you can still find it in Sam McCauleys Chemists, Shaws Department and Superdrug Stores. It also available from the Gosh website.

Catrice Prêt-a-Lumiêre Collection

Happy 2017 everyone! Can’t believe that 2016 is over, I honestly have had such an amazing year thanks to the start up of my blog. It’s brought a bunch of new connections and opportunities to work with some amazing brands including a brand I regularly feature on my site Catrice Cosmetics. Delighted to say that they’re starting 2017 with a bang with the release of a brand new limited edition collection called Prêt-a-Lumiêre. This collection is very much centred around the trend of Strobing and getting that incredible glow to the skin. I don’t have all the products from the line so for the ones I don’t I’ll be using HD images instead.

Glam and Doll Sparkling Lashes Mascara
4.50 euros

“Bright Eyed Beauty! The popular glam and doll mascara is enhanced with a fine shimmer to add sparkle to your lashes. This mascara can be worn solo or used as a topper to deliver a sparkling effect.”

From the description I’m guessing that this is going to be permanent line Glam and Doll mascara with added glitter to make your lashes sparkle. Only thing is I have no clue as to what colour the glitter is. I have tried their original and the formulation is great for those of you who like a soft fluttery look to your lashes.

Lip and Eye Brow Lifter
3.95 euros

“This multifunction creamy texture pen offers effortless strobing on the go. The texture contains light reflecting pigments to set beautiful champagne or rosé highlights beneath the arch of the brows and on the lip bow for fuller looking lips.”

I love the idea of these pencils, they’re basically what it says on the tin. One thing that is excluded from the description is that I think they would be amazing to use on the inner corner of the eyes as well. That will cause any eye look to instantly brighten and look lighter. These are available in two shades; C01 Golden Glow and C02 Radiant Rose.

Vinyl Gloss-In Stick
5.50 euros

“Get smooth, shiny lips with one sweep of these slim sticks. The lipsticks are easy to apply accurately and come in two shades.”

These are very similar to the super shiny lipsticks that most brands are bring out. They come in one of my favourite forms with regards to application. I love lipsticks that come in this thin format. The shades are C01 Nude Couture and C02 Strobe in Rosewood.

Face Glow Definer

This is the first of the products that I was sent from the collection. Liquid highlighter that comes in this simple acrylic tube with a sponge applicator wand for putting it on. I love the rose gold packaging that has been used for the collection as a whole. This highlighter comes in two shades C01 Golden Glow and C02 Radiant Rose . I have the second shade which is a bit more on the bronze side.

Pigmentation is nice and subtle meaning this is more than suitable for wearing during the day. It reflects the light softly and I personally think you could definitely intensify it by applying a highlighting powder on top once it sets.

Illuminating Serum Primer
4.50 euros

“Liquid illumination comes in the form of this stunning new primer-a light neutral beige base with a golden shimmer. Mixed with foundation, this all rounder has a subtle effect, while the glow is more intense when applied solo.”

Catrice Pr t- -Lumi re Illuminating Serum Primer

 Strobing Gel Highlighter
5.50 euros

Definitely one of the more interesting releases within the collection. This is a highlighter with a gel formulation that comes in a rather large glass pot. This is simply without a doubt gorgeous on the skin. Because it has a thicker consistency than a liquid highlighter a little goes a long way so the pot will last you quite a long time.

This highlighter has a very rose gold undertone that really falters almost every skin tone. I think it might be more suited as a blush for those of us who are super pale. I like to apply this with a sponge rather than a brush as the brush I found picks up a bit too much product. The shade is called C01 Luminous Lights and is great for applying not only to high points of the face but also to the décolleté.

Highlighting Powder
5.50 euros

Last product from the collection is this stunning highlighting powder. I think it’s very smart of Catrice to bring out a powder with this collection as it can be layered over all the other formulations to give a more intense look and effect.

The highlighter comes in three shades, C01 Luminous Lights, C02 Golden Glow and C03 Prismatic Pink. From the three I have the shade C02 Golden Glow which is definitely the more golden of the three. C01 Luminous Lights has more of an ethereal glow and C03 Prismatic Pink has that porcelain iridescent effect to it.

The powder itself is gorgeously finely milled, so there is no risk of chunkiness with the application of it. There’s also no sign of chunky glitter that is common with inexpensive brands, rather it has a stunning shimmer that is comparable to some of the higher end highlighters such as the Urban Decay and Mary Kay highlighters.

This collection will be available in Catrice stockists such as Pennys/Primark and Sam McCauleys throughout the month of January.

Sleek Cleopatra Highlighting Palette

Everybody and I mean everybody when crazy over this palette when Sleek Makeup initially released the first image of it over on Twitter. I was no exception because after trying out the Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette I knew this was going to be just as good as that palette if not better. Let me tell you, it certainly did not disappoint!

Let’s quickly get the gorgeous packaging out of the way. It’s exactly the same as the Solstice Palette in that they’ve chosen to put the product in this incredible gold reflective acrylic casing. The letters spelling the word Sleek are displayed prominently on the lid in a slight varying shade of gold. We’ll just ignore the crappy brush they’ve added….which I’ve already managed to lose…

Inside you get a mirror of course as with all Sleek Makeup palettes and 4 highlighters in differing tones of gold. Two of the highlighters are cream and two are powder. Personally I found the powders to be a lot more pigmented and faltering on the skin than the cream formulations.

The first shade from the palette is called Sphinx  and this is the darkest and most intensely pigmented shade from the palette. This is very much a true gold highlight that I love to use on the inner corner of the eye. I would personally find it to be incredible for those of us that have darker skin tones or olive skin tones as it will play off the depth of the skin and bring it to life. Just my opinion of course! Use whatever one your like the most.

The second shade is called  Delta and this is the first of the cream shades. I found this to be the sheer sister of Sphinx in the fact that it has the same undertone and is very similar in colour to it but it’s a different formulation. To be frank I didn’t really like the cream formulations in this palette for use as actual highlighters. Personally I found them better used as cream coloured bases under gold tones eyeshadows.

Shade 3 is Dynasty and this is the traditional yellow gold colour that people tend to think of when you say the colour gold. Love using this shade as both a cream colour base for under shadows and a brow highlight! Because it’s sheer it gives a nice intense highlight on the brows without being over the top. The tone of this particular highlight makes it more faltering as a brow highlight for me compared to Delta.

Last shade in the palette is actually my favourite and this is called Goddess. A true ethereal highlight, with a soft pink almost like pink quartz shot through with a gold shimmer. I tend to use this on top of the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick to really give you that highlight on fleek effect! Total lover of this combination.

All in all I totally recommend this palette and it’s sister palette the Solstice highlighting palette from Sleek Makeup they are hands down the best highlighting palettes on the market and they are super affordable. If your interested in knowing what else I have in my makeup collection from Sleek then check out my Sleek Collection post.

Maybelline Master Strobing Stick

So many purchases so little time! I keep salivating over the Maybelline Instagram with all their pictures of their new releases. Now some of them aren’t as interesting as others and I won’t be buying all of the new releases but the ones I do I’m definitely reviewing. Today is the Maybelline Strobing Stick turn. This is a cream highlighting stick that comes in two different shades. It’s also knocked all of my other highlighters aside and taken first place.

Straight of the bat I don’t like the packaging but it is very practical even if it’s not pretty to look at. It works by twisting up the highlighter sort of like a lipstick twists up. The stick may look small but you really only need a small amount to get a desired effect with it. This has 9 grams/0.32 oz of product in it and it retails for roughly 8.49 euros.

I’ve seen a lot of videos where people apply this with either their fingertips or straight from the stick. However I’ve found that applying it with a soft dense brush gives the most intense and blended effect on the skin. If your looking for a subtle highlight then this highlighter isn’t for you. It’s really has a strong intense strobed effect when applied.

sam_2044The highlighter, like I said comes in two shades and I personally picked it up in the shade 100 Light-Iridescent. The other shade is in 200 Medium Nude Glow and that shade is more of a deep gold shade compared to the one I got. The shade Light-Iridescent is a gorgeous light pick shade that is just perfect for us that have pale skin. Formulation wise the highlighter is super creamy but once it’s applied and sets it doesn’t budge.

I absolutely love this highlighter and can’t wait to pick up more of the new releases from Maybelline soon.

Maybelline Bricks Bronzer

So I may have mentioned in my review of the Maybelline Colour Drama Lip Paints that I’ve been seeing so many releases from Maybelline online it’s not even funny. The only problem is they take forever to reach here in little ole Ireland. So basically I’m reviewing them as I find them. Today’s winner is the Maybelline NY Bricks Bronzer

Packaging is boring as hell, simple plastic compact. The only fancy thing about it is that it’s rose gold in colour. I like that the lid is see through so that you can see the product through the packaging. The shade that I have is 01 Blondes and it’s , as far as I know, the only shade that this product comes. The fact that is has 01 in front of it’s name though indicates that Maybelline might be working on darker shades to be released in the future but don’t quote me on that.

Inside the palette you get a very generous amount of bronzer and a not so generous amount of highlighter which drives me crazy about this palette because I love the highlighter more than I love the bronzer.

That being said the bronzer isn’t bad, it’s got a great buttery formulation that is super smooth when applied and the pigmentation is pigmented enough that you get something applied onto the skin but it’s not too pigmented that you get an over load of product. As Goldilocks once said …It’s just right.

The real star of this palette though is the highlighter! You can see fro the palette that it is very similar to the Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks (I’ve never owned them but I have swatched them and I think this is nicer) The pigmentation on these is so beautiful and rich and super glowy on the skin. This is the highlighter for you if you’re looking for the JLO Glow.

My only complaint is that I wish there was more of the highlighter in the palette because I’m going to run out of the highlighter and still have a ton of the bronzer let 😦 other than that it’s a great new product from Maybelline and I can’t wait to get my hands on the other new releases they bring out. Oh this retailed for 8.49 euros and I got mine from Boots as always
