Primer

Elf Cosmetics Tone Adjusting Face Primer

Primer has got to be the most underrated product in the makeup industry simply because a lot of people either don’t use it or don’t know what it is. I personally use a primer every single time I decide to do my makeup. Almost all primers work as a glue to help your foundation last longer on the skin. Some primers also have added skincare benefits and some help fill in fine lines and pores. The primer that I’m reviewing today is from the brand ELF Cosmetics and this has a color-correcting feature to it that helps even out the skin and reduce sallowness.

SAM_4233

The primer itself comes in this lovely small frosted plastic tube that has a slight lilac color to it. It has a pump to dispense out the product and one pump provides enough product for the entire face.

SAM_4237

The primer is purple in color and when it is applied onto the skin, it helps to brighten and perfect it. The purple color does not come through your foundation, so once your foundation is applied it looks completely normal.

SAM_4235

Texture wise, the primer has a very silicone feel to it which might feel a bit greasy for those who have oily skin. With regards to dry skin, it does smooth out any areas that have dry patches on them. Price wise this primer retails for 7.95 euros and is available here in Ireland in Pennys & Mulligans Stores. For outside of Ireland the ELF Cosmetics website is linked below.

Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara

It’s always such a nice thing to be able to say I found a great mascara at an affordable price point. Why? Because mascara is one of those things that unless you fork out 30 quid you always tend to be slightly disappointed in. It either doesn’t give you enough volume or it does give you enough length and almost always makes you think “that’s not black enough for me”.

SAM_4641

As of late I have been trialing the latest mascara launch from the brand Maybelline. This is their Total Temptation mascara and according to the many influencers online it is a direct dupe for the infamous Too Face Better Than Sex mascara. Personally, I have never tried the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara but can say if it’s as good as this mascara than it has my vote of approval.

SAM_4643

I absolutely love everything about this mascara from the gorgeous soft blush pink packaging of it’s tube to the epic non-plastic, actual bristles brush of the wand. It gives big, thick and long lashes that are jet black and totally dramatic. Some people might find it a bit much for everyday wear however if you are like me and are looking for a mascara that ticks every box than this is the one for you.

SAM_4644

Price wise this mascara retails for 12.99 euros however most drugstore than to pop it in a Maybelline 3 for 2 offer.

Urban Decay Beached Eyeshadow Palette

There is nothing I love more than when summer time hits and Urban Decay release their summer collection. I don’t think their is a single year that has passed since I’ve gotten into makeup that I haven’t picked something up from their many releases. This years collection really incorporates the summer image of palm trees and sandy beaches as well as clear skies and warm days. This is also reflected in the product shades as well.

SAM_4621 From the collection I only picked up the star of the collection and that’s the Beached Eyeshadow Palette. This palette has eight beautiful shades which are a mixture of matte, satin and shimmer finishes. Out of the eight shades, six of them are completely wearable on an everyday basis so it’s definitely a great palette for travel and for creating nice neutral looks.

SAM_4624 I love the packaging of this palette too, it’s very different to any other palette in my collection. It has a very old-school tin pencil case vibe to it and it opens horizontally too. The lid of the palette flips completely open so it means you can you can keep it to the back of the palette if you want to use your own mirror but if not-it has a great big mirror that perfect for focusing on your eye area because of the shape of it.

SAM_4622 Both the pigmentation and formulation of this palette do not disappoint. I absolutely love the shimmers but they do have a bit of fallout so I do recommend doing your eyeshadow before your base. Damping your brush also stops this and intensives the pigmenation of the shadow too.

The palette is available in stores now and retails for 34 euros. I have added a link to it via the Debenhams website in the case you would like to pick it up for yourself.

New Releases from L’oreal

It’s been about a month since I’ve last sat at a computer to write a blog post and can I just say it was a break that was very much needed. I managed to have a nice relaxed few weeks that didn’t have me constantly checking my social media or checking to see if my scheduled post went up on time. Now that those weeks are finished however I’m ready to get back into what I enjoy and that’s writing about makeup.

SAM_4653

During my weeks off I picked up a lot of new releases especially from L’oreal Paris because they seem to be bringing out a new product every other week. I’m going to start off with the one product out of the releases that I picked that I liked. This is the L’oreal Glow Mon Amour Highlighting Drops in the shade 01 Sparkling Love.

SAM_4664

This is a stunning liquid highlighter that looks like liquid gold on the skin. It has a dropper tool as it’s applicator and you get 15mls of product in the bottle. It’s so easy to apply and I found using a small damp sponge with it gives the best result finish wise on the skin.

SAM_4657

I have a very much love/hate relationship with the Bonjour Nudista Awakening Skin Tint. This is marketed as a BB Cream however I find it more like a tinted moisturiser except it is so dry looking on the skin. I found the texture of it a bit like a gel and when applied on the skin it literally enhanced every pore & dry skin patch available. I didn’t like it at all.

That said, I did mix it with a serum/moisturiser/hydrating primer (only one of these at any one application) and it applied so beautifully. It really gave a gorgeous dewy finish to my skin that looked so perfect for the summer weather we’ve been having recently. See what I mean about the love/hate. I hate it on it’s own and love it mixed in with other products. I do however think that this product is not worth the purchase as I have other tinted products that give me a gorgeous dewy look to my skin without me having to mix them with anything.

SAM_4661 To go with the skin tint I decided to pick up the Infaillible 24H Concealer Pomade. This has been compared to the Nars Velvet Matte Concealer by a lot of my favourite bloggers and influencers. I HATE this concealer. It’s so thick and drying regardless of how you use it. I’ve tried it under the eyes-it creased. I’ve tried it on blemishes-it wiped off. Not only that it felt and looked very heavy on the skin-almost like it was sitting on top of it rather than look naturally sunk in.

SAM_4662

Let me know if you’ve tried any new products (from any brand) recently that I just have to try so I can check them out.

Concealers

Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer

The Catrice Liquid Camouflage concealer is one that every blogger under the moon has raved about including Tati from GlamLifeGuru and Sinead from TheBeautifulTruth.ie. I personally have been trying it out for the past couple of weeks and to be honest have found it well deserving of the rave reviews it has gotten.

SAM_4613

Considering it only retails for 3.99 euros it gives such amazing high coverage that doesn’t feel thick or heavy on the skin.  It has a gel-like formulation to it, that makes it feel really lightweight so it’s not a problem to use this under the eyes. In fact it works great at covering dark circles and blue veins with settling into fine lines.

SAM_4614.JPG

It comes with a doe-foot applicator that is slightly longer than your typical doe-foot applicator which I really like as it allows you to apply the right amount of product in a single swipe motion. A tube of this concealer contains 5mls of product or 0.16 fluid ounces.

SAM_4616

I’m currently using the shade 007 Natural Rose however I do feel like it is a touch too dark for me so next time I will definitely be re-purchasing it in a lighter shade. That said I do want to try some new concealers out once this is finished so please do leave me some recommendations of your favourites below.

Foundations

Maybelline Dream Satin Foundation & Mist

I find it so hard to find foundations that I like and that actually match my skin tone. I’m pale, and by pale I mean vampire pale so most brands tend to not have my foundation within their range. I have been using those colour correcting drops in white to lightening most of them but it is nice when I can just use the foundation as is without having to add anything to it.

SAM_4630

This is exactly what the new Maybelline Dream Satin Foundation does for me. I can pick up the bottle, pump out two pumps, apply it and be done. The match is perfect as it should be seeing as they have released a whopping 22 shades within the range. Major pat on the back to them for that. The shade that I’m using is 03 True Ivory and for once it’s actually not the lightest shade, there are two others before it.

SAM_4632.JPG

Formulation wise I find this foundation to be quite gel-like in consistency. It’s thick to apply but not heavy whatsoever. It gives really high coverage but I found you can definitely sheer it out with a sponge or if you want it lighter still, add a drop of your fav moisturiser to it and you’ve got the perfect BB Cream. I found the finish of it to be semi-matte. By that I mean it looks and feels matte but it doesn’t make you look flat at all.

SAM_4631.JPG

Maybelline has also very cleverly released a Dream Satin Mist as a company product to the foundation. The mist has a luminous finish to it so when you spray it over the foundation it makes the foundation have a dewy finish instead of a semi-matte one. I love the sprayer of the bottle, it disperses a really fine mist all over the face. I don’t like the smell of it however, it’s a bit chemically for my tastes but that won’t stop me from using it.

The foundation retails for 12.99 euros and the mist for 10.99 euros but you can definitely find these on a buy one get one half price offer in Boots. That’s certainly how I got them. Let me know what you’re current fav foundation is :0

Highlighter

Essence Cosmetics Glow to Go Palette

It’s summer and the one product we use in the summer to make our skin pop is highlighter. More specifically a gorgeous bronze highlight that can make us pretend that we somewhat look like JLO. SAM_4383One of the best products that I found recently to get this look is the Essence Cosmetics Glow To Go palette. This palette has four gorgeous, high shine highlighters that work to give the ultimate bronze goddess look to the skin.

Texture wise all of these are soft buttery powders that apply beautifully to the skin. The shimmer running through them is shimmer-no chunky glitter whatsoever with this palette.

SAM_4384

I will say I wish this palette was split into two duos instead of having all four pans in the one palette. This is simply because I found the first two shades great for using on lighter skin tones and the other two great on darker skin tones. It’s great as is for any of you who are makeup artist and need something for all skin types but for those of us who tend to use products like this for personal use it would have been better split in half. That said I do use the other two shades as eyeshadows and they work great on the eyes just as good as they do on the cheeks.

The palette retails for 4.95 euros and is available in Pennys/Primark stores as well as anyone else who carries Essence Cosmetics stands.
