MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick

MAC Cosmetics is the one makeup brand that when I see a counter for it, I run straight for the lipsticks and start swatching all of them immediately. I think they are kings/queens (I’m not labelling) of lipstick making. Because of my love for their lipsticks I tend to add one to my collection each and every time I find a MAC counter-which isn’t often as I live in Waterford & the closest counter is up in Dublin City.

SAM_3571

My latest addition to my MAC Lipstick collection is the shade Smoke Purple which is a fairly famous shade as it’s the shade that the singer Lorde uses as her signature colour. I love dark and rich colours on my lips so whenever I’m going to spend 20 euros for a lipstick, I’m going to choose a colour that I will wear quite frequently. Smoked Purple comes in the iconic MAC bullet packaging, like all the other lipsticks they do, and is a member of their retro matte formulated lipsticks.

SAM_3577The colour is simply the most gorgeous deep vampy purple that, even though it’s a retro matte, is very comfortable on the lips and suits most if not all skin-tones. I personally love applying MAC’s Nightmoth lip liner on under it as this colour, because of how dark it is, can be a small bit patchy when applied on the lips just on it’s own. Nightmoth is literally the same colour but in lip liner form.

Please let me know what your favourite MAC Cosmetics lipstick is in the comments so I can add it to my list of lipsticks to pick up 🙂

Singles in Pennys/Primark

The title of this blog post may slightly be a tad misleading in that if you’re single and looking for a hot guy (or gal) to date please don’t go to Pennys/Primark as you will be sorely disappointed. However if you’re looking for a MAC Cosmetics dupe to their single eyeshadow refillable pan palette system that they are famous for than by all means go, because Primark has just hit genius status in my book.

SAM_3686

I was honestly shocked when I was browsing the makeup stalls in Pennys and spotted these Custom Eyes palettes. Now when it comes to these you have two options. You can fill a nine pan palette which retails for 3 euros or you can fill a four pan palette which retails for 2 euros. Yes, just like MAC you do have to pay for an empty palette which you then fill with single eyeshadows.

SAM_3687

I personally went for the 9 pan palette because I knew I would be putting together this review and wanted to try out as many of the eyeshadows and the quality of them as possible. Each single eyeshadow retails for 1 euro so a total of 9 euros was spent on the eyeshadows plus the palette brings everything to 12 euros. Bargain right, looks much nicer than the 49 euros one has to spend to get a MAC one.

SAM_3694

As with all Primark/Pennys makeup some of these eyeshadows are a bit hit or miss and like everything in makeup I do have my favorites and ones I wish I had passed on to be honest. The pans are relatively the exact same size as the MAC ones though I think these might be just a smidge bigger but not by much.

SAM_4176

The first shade that I have is probably one of the ones I could do without. It’s a good eyeshadow don’t get me wrong, it has amazing pigmentation, the shimmer is intense and it applies on the eyes like butter. To be honest they all do bar one shade which I will get to. This is the shade Gold Digger and much like the names states it’s a nice sharp gold, which unfortunately is available in almost any versatile eyeshadow palette so its nothing special.

SAM_4159

This next shade is hands down my favorite of the 9 eyeshadows, mostly because it can be doubled up and used as a highlighter if you love your highlight to be shining to space like I do. This eyeshadow is called Opal and is an intense shimmery lilac shade that looks so soft and angelic on the eyelids. Personally I love wearing this all over the lid on it’s own with some fluttery lashes and calling it a day.

SAM_4178

Above I mentioned that there was one eyeshadow that just did not do as well as the others with regards to quality. This eyeshadow is the most powdery and chunky out of all the ones that I picked up. Yes, it has some nice pigmentation but it’s simply not worth using it with the amount of mess it creates with all the fallout it has.

SAM_3690

This dark purple shade is called Royal and I really wanted to love it because purple is my favourite colour but unfortunately this just did not cut it at all. Definitely one I wish I had passed on.

SAM_4180

Blue eyeshadow is not a colour most people like to wear but lately I’ve been noticing that there are some brave souls popping it on and looking amazing in it. I definitely want to be one of those brave souls so when I saw this shade I had to add it to my selection.

SAM_4160

Definitely a satin finish eyeshadow, this is the shade Tidal and it is the perfect jean denim blue. It packs some pigment when it’s applied but blends beautifully. I even find it dark enough that people with blue eyes don’t have to worry about washing out their eye colour by wearing this.

SAM_4182

I think this next shade is one of the more popular shades from the choices that were available, probably because it’s the shade that everyone will feel the most comfortable in.

SAM_3693

I have to say though this looks like your typical shimmery brown that you can get in most neutral palettes, I don’t actually have any palettes that have a colour quite like this. It’s a very unique brown in that it is very intense and almost has a blackened undertone to it. The shade is called Hot Coco and it really does give the effect of molten chocolate on the eyes.

SAM_4184

The next shade I have in my palette is another one that I really wish I had passed on because it’s simply not that unique and can be found in most versatile eyeshadow palettes.

SAM_3696

This is the shade Cranberry and just like it’s name, it’s a satin finish cranberry eyeshadow. I find this very comparable to the Cranberry single eyeshadow from Clarins and MAC’s single eyeshadow Cranberry too. So if you have either of those you don’t need this.

For the first slot in the last row of the palette, I went for the only matte shade that spark my interest. Surprisingly I found the texture of this matte shadow to be very soft and smooth. It applied just as well as the others on the eyes and there was no powdery dust floating everywhere when I dipped my brush into it.

SAM_4161

Colour wise this is what I would call an aquamarine green and is great for popping on the lower lash line when you want to add a pop of colour to you’re makeup look. The shade is called  Sea-foam.

SAM_4251

Keeping in the green family, this is a gorgeous shimmery khaki eyeshadow that goes by the name Basil. Real basil (the herb) is a bit brighter in colour so I don’t know why they named it Basil.

SAM_3695

This eyeshadow does have a slight shift to it, giving off a slight reflect of gold shimmer depending on how the light hits the eyes. I personally love how unique this eyeshadow is and highly recommend it to anyone looking to fill a palette themselves.

SAM_4253

Last eyeshadow in my palette is probably the most used shade out of all of them. This is a simple browbone highlight shade called Stripped which I use to…you guessed it, highlight my browbone.

SAM_3697

Though it looks super intense in the swatch below, with a light hand it’s very natural and just gives a subtle glow to the arch of your brow area. I love this eyeshadow so much and it even looks nice all over the lid with a classic winged liner and mascara.

SAM_4255

So those are my nine eyeshadow picks that I got to fill my 9-Pan palette from Pennys/Primark. I absolutely love that they’ve brought in this system and hope they introduce more shades to the line as the seasons change and new trends appear in the makeup world.

SAM_4164

Do let me know in the comments below which shade is you’re favourite of the nine. Also if you have one of these filled please leave any recommendations for shades that I don’t have 🙂

W7 Makeup Mid Summer Nights Palette

Do you ever get those moments where in a certain brand that typically sells semi okay makeup, you find that hidden gem that is actually an amazing product. This is what’s after happening with me with regards to this palette by W7 Makeup. I’ve always gotten sucked into W7 Makeup’s products because of the amount of hype they get on social media and never have I tried a product from them that I have actually liked until now.

SAM_3636

This is the Naughty Nine Mid Summer Nights palette and if you’re a devotee of MAC Cosmetics then this palette packaging shouldn’t be un-familiar to you. It’s literally a direct copy of the 9 pan palettes that MAC own. That aside, the eyeshadows in this palette are almost as good as the eyeshadows in those MAC ones.

SAM_3637

The palette, very true to it’s name, comes with 9 eyeshadows and they are very much from the berry colour family. They range from almost a soft dusky mauve to an amazing intense cranberry red, with the odd gold and taupe shade thrown in for good measure.

These eyeshadows are buttery soft, blend out seamlessly and have almost little to no fallout whatsoever to them. I particularly like the pigmentation of the shimmer shades more than the mattes but that only because I prefer the colour of those shades.

This palette only costs 4.95 euros, putting that next to the 33.50 euros price tag of the MAC one, I can overlook the copyright details in the packaging.

M.A.C Russian Red Lipstick

Whenever someone asks me “what’s your favourite lipstick?” my reply will always be MAC Russian Red lipstick. The main reason is because this lipstick is the one that I chose for my big day, my wedding. I think when someone chooses something for their wedding then in their eyes that product or item is perfect for them and that’s exactly how I feel about this lipstick.

SAM_3571

Like 90% of MAC lipsticks it has the very iconic bullet shaped design for it’s outer packaging as it’s lipstick tube. The lipstick itself is one of MAC’s Matte formulated lipsticks and true to the formulation name, this lipstick has not a single bit of a shine to it whatsoever once it’s applied on the lips. In fact it’s so matte that it can be borderline drying on the lips if worn excessively.

SAM_3573

I tend to avoid wearing this on a day to day basis instead reserving it for those special occasions when I want a true red. Also when I do want to wear it, I make sure to exfoliate my lips before hand with a lip scrub like the Primark Beauty: PS..PRO Lip Scrub and then applying a good hydrating lip balm or lip mask. My favourite lip mask is the Nugg Beauty: Lip Mask.

SAM_3575

I think what makes this lipstick so special is the colour of it. It’s the most intense and flawless red shade that seems to falter almost every single skin tone that wears it. I say this is my favourite lipstick but I’m not alone in that statement. This lipstick is a favourite of a lot of makeup artist’s and beauty bloggers also.

SAM_3594

MAC Lip Scrubitous Collection

MAC cosmetics have finally  released Lip Scrubs which personally I think is long over do. For a brand that prides itself on it’s many formulations and finishes within it’s lipstick line, lip scrubs should have been released from the minute they introduced their matte lipstick formulation. They have brought out five in total, varying only in scent and packaging colour.

“A sugar-based exfoliator that gently buffs away dry and flaky skin.”

Makeup Tools

Icing Brushes

Whenever I think of really good makeup brushes to recommend to people I always say MAC or Real Techniques. And honestly it’s very rare that I find brushes from other brands that do better than those two. I will say in all honesty that MAC brushes are over priced, even I can’t justify some of them. Real Techniques is nice and affordable but they’ve recently released their bold metals range and one brush is 30 euros…I mean why..? I mean I know some brush brands use real hair instead of synthetic or use fancier brush wands (Bold Metals have a weighted handed which is why its 30 euros) but do we really need those elements in our everyday brush requirements. I don’t know but for me it kinda made me want to see if I can find and inexpensive GOOD brush brand and so my google search was born.

SAM_0848

I managed to find this brand of brushes that goes by the name ICING. I have to say I love the quality of these brushes. They use synthetic bristles so you don’t have to worry about using them with cream products and they are affordable as well. You can order these from their website which I’ll link below but I managed to find mine in a local shop called Claire’s Accessories. They had the entire range but seeing as I already own a lot of brushes I looked for ones that I would get the most use out of.

SAM_0849

Brush number 1 is actually 2 brushes seeing as it’s dual ended, and I must mention that they have a lot of brushes in their range that are dual ended and less than 10 euros. This is ICING’s Contour brush. The large side is meant for contouring and chiselling out those cheekbones and the small side is for the precise application of highlighter along the tops of the cheeks. This brush is super duper soft and the bristles are dual fibred so they don’t pick up a large amount of product which is prefect especially when it comes to contouring. This brush retails for 9.99 euros.

SAM_0850

The second brush that I’ve picked up is the ICING HD Foundation brush. This is a very small densely packed slanted kabuki brush which is perfect for applying foundation. Because of it’s small shape it does take a bit more work to spread the foundation but the end result is this flawless base of makeup. I will mention that this doesn’t apply makeup lightly, it is meant to be used when you want full coverage from your foundation as it is a dense brush. This brush retails for 6.99 euros.

I will quickly mention that I love the packaging of these brushes and that they also wash beautifully. If you guys have tried any of these brushes let me know which ones as will I probably add to my collection soon! Their so affordable 🙂
