Balmkind Lipbalm

Lipbalms are one of those things in my skin routine that I have to be constantly changing simply because my lips, for some strange reason, tend to grow accustomed to any lipbalms that actually work on them. What I mean by that is I will find a lipbalm that I like and that actually works in keeping my lips hydrated but then after a while it stops working on them and they go back to being their old chapped selves. It annoys me so much when this happens and it’s happened alot-regardless of the price tag that comes attached to the lipbalm.

Recently I was lucky enough to be sent the BalmKind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm to try out and to be honest my lips desperately need it as I’ve just recovered from a bad case of the flu and I have literally no moisture left in them at all. The lipbalm comes in the most gorgeous blush pink tube that contains 10 ls of product in it. The texture of it is like a gel and it has a nice cooling effect to the lips when it’s applied. I personally found it to feel more like a mask on the lips than a lipbalm which I have to say I really like, especially because I can reserve this for the nightime and have soft lips when I wake up in the morning.

The tube has the typical doe-foot slanted applicator to it which to be honest I wish had some sort of sponge on it because it feels very hard and plastic against the lips when applying it. The colour of the lipbalm is the same as the tube which is a nice touch I have to say. For those of you worried about the scent and taste of it seeing as it contains rose I found the scent wise it doesn’t linger-literally gone the minute you apply it it. With regards to taste it really doesn’t have one.

I have to say I have really enjoyed using this lipbalm for the past two weeks and can say it has saved my lips after them be so dehydrated from being flu-ridden. I just hope it stays working on them in the future.

Clarins KISS Lipbalm

So it’s been about a minute since I last blogged anything on this website and the reason for this is because I was away on holidays. Most of the blog posts that were posts were pre-scheduled as I knew I wouldn’t really have access to internet while I was away. That said I’m back now and ready to get back into the swing of things with some new blog posts. Any requests leave them in the comments below.

With me being on holidays in the very hot country that is Lebanon, I ended up suffering from very dehydrated lips. My saviour as always came from the incredible brand that is Clarins Skincare. It’s very typical of me whenever I have something bothering my lips to head straight for the Clarins counter because I know their products work. Their Lip Oil is one of my favourite product ever and would have worked wonders had I remembered to pack it.

Instead of purchasing something I already knew I had back home I decided to take a chance and picked up their new KISS Lipbalm. This come in a cardboard tube with very cute and fun loveheart and kisses popped all over it. The lipbalm itself is amazingly hydrating and develops a slight pink tint as it reacts to the pH of the lips.

At only 14 euros a price tag I highly recommend this for anyone thinking of a new purchase from Clarins or even just needing a new lipbalm. It’s honestly the only thing that saved my lips over the summer. I also managed to pick up all three of their new Instant Light Lip Perfectors which I shall have a review of soon enough so stay tuned!

Dr. PAWPAW is a brand that is known for having created the first ever fragrance free, multi-use balm. These balms can literally be used on hands, lips, cuticles, tips of the hair and on any cracked/dry skin areas of the body. Recently the brand has been awarded with the PETA seal of approval and is officially cruelty-free. It always has been cruelty-free but now the brand can prove it.

The most famous balm out of their range is the Original Balm due to it being completely clear, fragrance free and great for sensitive skin. The main ingredient in Dr. PawPaw balms is Carica Papaya which is also known as fermented Paw Paw hence where it’s name comes from. Texture wise this balm is very similar to Vaseline but it doesn’t have that petroleum scent to it nor is it quite as thick as Vaseline tends to be.

This balm is also available in three different tinted versions and to be honest these ones aren’t as multi-use as the clear original version. They can only really be used on the lips as a hydrating lip balm and as a cream/gel blush. The shade Peach Pink has the thickest texture and consistency out of all of them. It feels more like a cream than a balm. That said it also has the highest colour pay-off and looks really pretty and fresh on the cheeks. Perfect for the coming summer months.

The shade Ultimate Red is my favourite for applying onto the lips as a lipbalm. It gives a subtle tint of red to the lips that looks nothing short of natural. Surprisingly these balms do last quite a long time on the lips and cheeks which I wasn’t expecting because of the slip they have to their formulation. I’ve found these last a good solid four hours even if you eat and drink.

Last of the shades is actually limited edition and it’s really just the shade Ultimate Red with added sparkle. These for me is a great topper over lipstick as it adds the sparkle effect to it and keeps the lips moisturised all at the same time. The packaging is also the coolest out of them all as it has this god sparkle effect to it.

These balms retail for roughly 8.99 euros and are available from most pharmacies. I’ve even started to notice that mini versions of them have come into Primark/Pennys which make them even better for popping into the handbag for on the go.

Ruth’s Natural Skincare LipBalms

Is it me or is the weather getting colder and colder these days? I’m finding the temperature dropping day by day and to be quite frank my lips are feeling it too. I’ve been for the past few weeks since I got them been using the Ruth’s Natural Skincare lip-balms and to be honest if it wasn’t for them I  would propably have the sorest lips ever. I was generously given these lip balms by Ruth herself who is such an inspiration woman in that she started up her own cosmetics business and is selling only natural handmade products.

All of these lip balms have the same basic twist-up white tube packaging. It’s convenient, simple and easy to use. They’re also light enough and small enough to fit into any clutch or handbag. Sometimes the lip-balms that come in jars may look beautiful but they’re a nuisance to take on the go. The different flavours/scents of the lip-balms is the only thing that’s different on each tube. Each scent/flavour has it’s own colour and that how you differ between them.

These lip-balms have one of the nicest formulations that I’ve used in awhile. The texture of them is just right in that they have the right amount of slip to them to be applied evenly on the lips but at the same time they don’t go sliding all over the mouth. They would be considered very satin like on the lips. They also have just the right amount of matiness to them that they can be used under lipsticks and liquid lipsticks without changing the finish of the lipstick itself.

These lip-balms fully moisturise the lips and help them maintain hydration. I normally have the problem where if I get a new lip-balm, it works the first few times on my lips and them it stops having an effect and my lips revert to being chapped. I didn’t find this happening with these lip-balms. They’ve honestly gotten me through the entire month of December without any flaky, chapped lips 🙂

The five flavours/scents are as follows:

  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Patchouli
  • Peppermint
  • Natural

If you have really sensitive skin I recommend staying away from any of the fragranced ones and sticking to the natural. My personal favourites are the Lavender and Lemon. The Peppermint one is lovely but it does create a slight tingly effect on the lips on initial application. My least favourite is the Patchouli, I simply didn’t like the scent but the balm itself is still lovely to use.

All of these products are available to purchase in various pharmacies and health stores around Ireland. If you want to find a stockist near you I recommend you check out Ruth’s website (linked below) which lists all the available stockist on it.

Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush

The whole Baby Lips trend that has been happening these days with the release of the many “Baby” named products from Maybelline really hasn’t been my thing! I didn’t like their original formulation that comes looking like a chapstick. I found it too waxy. I didn’t like the primer, way to much silicone (It is a dupe for the Benefit Porefessional but I don’t like that primer either). They then came out with the Dr. Rescue range which I thought did no rescuing whatsoever for my lips. Now they’ve finally hit the nail on the head with their formulation for these “Baby” lip products for me with this release of the Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush.

There are three in the range and initially because of my lack of love for the range I only purchased one in the shade 06 Shimmering Bronze. However after falling in love with the formulation of this shade I went back and picked up every single shade and hence I have all three to review for you guys today.

I’ll begin with my favourite and the first one that I bought and that’s 06 Shimmering Bronze. I love the packaging, it’s super cute and small making it very compact for the purse. The applicator is both the lid of the product and the actual product itself. I love that it has a dome shape because it makes it so easy to apply onto the lips without a mirror.

These products are super pigmented but this shade is the most sheer of the three. It’s also the only one that has shimmer running through it but the shimmer is very fine and when applied to the lips you really can’t see it unless your in certain lighting. I find this shade to be the perfect nude especially when you don’t want anything high maintence on the lips.

The second shade is 05 Booming Ruby and this is the cherry red shade in the trio. It has the same story as the bronze shade except this one is more pigmented and has not shimmer running through it. I personally love this shade for layering under a matte red lip like MAC’s Russian Red so that the lipstick doesn’t dry out your lips with it’s matte formulation.

The last shade is called 02 Flirty Pink and to be honest I’m nota fan of the shade colour. I was expecting it to be a bit more sheer than it actually is but on the lips this goes on rather a pigmented pink and I just don’t do pink lipstick I’m afraid. It’s great for those who do though because it does have the same great formulation as the other two above.

I know I bought these as separate purchases but Maybelline is great for doing 3 for 2 offers on it’s range so I would wait until they do and grab all if three if all three is what you’re interested in. If not these retail for 6.49 euros a piece and are great for on the go!.
