Essence “I Want Candy” Collection 🍓🍬 🍉

At the end of June I posted an overview post on the latest launch from Essence Cosmetics and that is their I Want Candy collection which happens to be in collaboration with Chupa Chups Lollipops. I will link the overview post below so you can see what else is available in the release but for this post I have a few of the products from the collection to talk about.

As you can probably guess from a collaboration that features lollipops everything is very colourful from the packaging to the actual products. An added bonus is that fact that almost everything in this collection is also scented and the main scents are strawberry, watermelon and cola. All of these scents are actually the popular flavours of Chupa Chups Lollipops (my fav is actually cola 😋).

Probably the product almost everyone asked me about when I posted my overview post on the collection is the Scent Shimmer Pearls Blush in the shade 01 I Want It All! I can finally report back that this blush is as good as it appears to be. It’s got high pigmentation, great blendability and tends to falter most skin tones as it goes on almost a soft peach shade.

The only thing I didn’t like with this blush was the scent, it’s meant to be the same as a Strawberry Cream Chupa Chup Lolly but I personally found that the scent was a bit too artificial and so it didn’t translate to me as such. This blush has a retail price of 4.40 euros.

The next main product that I have is the eyeshadow palette called 01 I don’t care, I  Lolly! This palette has four really pretty pastel shades. Two of them are shimmers and two are satin finish. For me, I found that the satin ones had a bit more pigmentation and blended a lot easier on the eyelid than the shimmer.

With regards to the scent of this palette, I think they got the strawberry scent spot on. It wasn’t artificial like the blush and it was also very subtle, meaning you only really smell it when you open up the palette. This I like because to be honest who wants strawberry smelling eyelids 😆

The last makeup item that I have from the collection is their Lolly Dots Eyeliner in the shade 01 Dot it All. I have to say this is probably my favourite product from the collection. The most unique thing about is definitely it’s applicator. The tip of is shaped into three dots with the dots getting smaller as you move up the tip.

This makes it great for creating unique eyeliner designs on the eye. It also makes it easier to map out your eyeliner shape by dotting it out before using the eyeliner pen on it’s side to create a flawless flick. Charlotte Tilbury adopts this technique and uses it on almost all her clients so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t either.  Pigmentation of this eyeliner is also super black and it dries down to a high shine glossy finish which personally reminds me of the shininess of the plastic wraps of the Chupa Chups Lollies.

Let’s move on to some fun nail products, with these three amazing nail polishes. Each of the polishes has it’s own unique scent, but I don’t recommend you try to smell it from the bottle…..(yes, I did learn that the hard way.) The scent really only appears once the polish is dry on the nails. My favourite out of the three has got to be the Cola Scented polish which is a nice summery duck egg blue called 02 I want Cola!

These polishes are slightly smaller in size than Essence’s normal polishes and I really think that’s simply because they are limited edition and part of a collection. The polishes do vary with each other with the amount of coats of each one you need to apply but they all have amazing colour pay-off and dry super quick. The pink shade is strawberry scented and is called 01 I want Strawberry!

You do need to work a bit with these polishes due to their smaller size, it also means they have a thinner brush. The thin brush is great for precision but it also means you need at least three strokes of it to cover the entire nail with polish. The turquoise shade is called 03 I want Watermelon!

These polishes retail for 1.90 euros a piece. There is also some cute nail stickers as part of this collection (also cola scented) and they are 1.60 euros and last really well especially if you pop on a thick layer of top coat over them.

Those are all the products that I have from this super fun collection. Let me know what you’re planning on getting from it & also what your favourite flavour of Chupa Chups lolly is 😀

Essence Live.Laugh.Celebrate! 🎊 🎉

“Live.Laugh.Celebrate!” are the three words Essence Cosmetics has used to describe and name their latest limited edition collection. This collection is very much centred around having party fun and they’ve released it in honour of Essence Cosmetics turning 15 years old. I honestly can’t believe it’s been around so long, though it makes sense as I still remember buying their lipglosses as a teenager.

The collection itself is very basic as they’ve chosen to release it in their singles format. This means you simply buy the main product which is the empty 4 or 8 slotted palettes and fill them with the many limited edition shades of eyeshadows, lip powders and blushes. The pans are super inexpensive as the pricing of them ranges between 1.90-2.50 euros. I personally love the palettes as they’ve got the coolest cover on them, they have moveable beads in the cover and it’s super cute and fun to shake.

The great thing about this collection is that you don’t have to stick with the pans that have been released for it, you can of course choose shades from their permanent “My Must Haves” range. For my palette, I have 2 eyeshadows, a lip base and a lip powder.

The eyeshadows as you know if you’ve read my Essence SS17 review are some of the nicest shadows I have in my collection. They are super creamy and highly pigmented. This first shade that I have is called 03 Life is Beautiful and is a nice silvery white that I’m sure would look amazing as an inner corner highlight as well as a cupid’s bow highlight shade.

The second eyeshadow that I have is called 06 Celebrate Good Times and is this gorgeous intense lilac purple. This shade also has a very unique dual-chrome effect to it in that there is a slight blueish sheen to it when the light reflects off of it. Personally I found this shade to have better blendablity than the first shadow. It’s also less chalky so I definitely recommend you swatch these in stores before choosing which ones to get.

The last two slots of my palette are dedicated to lips. Now this is my first time trying out the lip pans from Essence and to be honest it’s very much love hate for me. Before I get into what I love and hate though let me explain how these work. You need to pick up the lip base (above-shade 01 Let’s get it started) and a lip powder in your desired colour. You apply the base first which creates almost a sheer gloss on the lips for the lip powder, which goes on top to adhere too.

SAM_3127 I love the colours that Essence has as part of this concept. The gloss is super hydrating and feels moisturising on the lips. It also slightly fills in the lines of the lips so it can definitely be used as a lip primer for other lipsticks. The powder, though a bit patchy, with a bit of work applies with nice colour payoff and it doesn’t feel drying on the lips which surprised me, seeing as it’s a powder I thought it would be.

My only real issue with the lip products is that you need both. You can’t for example buy the lip powder and apply it over a regular lip balm. I’ve tired, it simply balls up on the lips and goes on a complete patchy mess. Also, and this is just me personally, why bother going through two steps to get an amazing colour on the lips when I can just achieve that with a single swipe of lipstick. If your ok with the extra step and the extra product than I will say these are good, it’s just that you can’t buy one without the other.

I should mention that the shade I have in the lip powder is 01 Crush on You! This collection is available up until mid June so if it has sparked your interest I would say go out and get it while you can 🙂

Essence SS17 P2

Essence Cosmetics is one of the most affordable brands available these days on the market. And though they are affordable they still make super high quality makeup that I personally love. For the Spring and Summer months they have decided to revamp their collection and bring out a bunch of new permanent items. All of these items can be seen in the over view post that I did here: Essence Spring Summer 2017. I, myself got a tad bit over excited about the new products and went out and purchased a few of them, and a review of those products can be found in part 1: Essence SS17 . Recently I was lucky enough to be sent another few items from the line and to frank their just as good as the ones that I have already tried out.

Probably one of the more popular introductions to the Essence range is their Eye & Face Palettes. Their are two palettes in the range and I have it in 02 Rise &Shine which is the more colourful of the two.

Both palettes come with four eyeshadows, one highlighter and one blush shade making it such a versatile palette and very good for travelling. The packaging is composed of this robust acrylic plastic that really is of a high quality. It doesn’t have a mirror so it does loss points for me there.

The eyeshadows come in two formulations, matte and shimmer and for me I personally found the shimmer shadows to have more pigmentation. First shadow is a nice highlighting champagne shade that works great for under the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eye. Shadow 2 is a perfect matte brown for taking through the crease. Shadow three is this lovely lavender pink shade that is so pretty on the eyelids. This shade literally screams spring to me. The only shade I didn’t like was the grey. Don’t get me wrong, it has the same great formulation the others but it just felt out of place in this palette, like it was just popped in to fill a space.

The highlighter from this palette is one that I would call a natural highlight. If your looking that intense wet looking highlight that you can see from space than this definitely won’t work for you. I personally found it really nice as a daily highlighter, it’s intense enough to give you a nice highlight but still remain subtle. Formulation wise I found it super buttery and smooth. It blended into the skin beautifully.

My favourite part of this palette has got to be the blush shade! I have to say this is probably a perfect dupe for both the Nars Orgasm Blush and the Sleek Rose Gold blush. Shade wise it’s that perfect spring pink with a stunning gold shimmer running through it. See how I said shimmer, no chunky glitter at all and it blends just as beautifully as the highlighter.

In the past Essence has always disappointed me with their base products so even as a fan of the brand I tend to steer clear of them. I will say I am willing to give their base products another chance after using the Essence Instant Matt Foundation. I have it in the shade 30 Matt Vanilla which is a definitely a few shades too dark for me but I tried it out anyway just so I could check out the coverage and the lasting power of it.

Formulation wise this has a rather thick texture to it. Definitely not one to use if your looking for something light on the skin. That said it does have a high coverage to it. I found that it did slightly cling to some of the dry skin around my nose. It probably is more suited for people with oiler skin than me (I’m normal/combo). I did however love the how perfected my skin looked with it on, and it lasted really well for 8hrs straight without breaking down.

For this launch Essence really went to town with their mascaras. They launched a total of three new mascaras, each with a different formulation. The one I have to show to you today is the Volume Stylist Lash Extension Mascara. This is a fibre mascara that is meant to add tiny fibres to the ends your lashes to volumize them and make them look fuller. Now I don’t know about the fibres because I didn’t see any but this is a really nice mascara for creating amazingly long and thick lashes in just two coats.

The mascara itself comes in this cool purple metallic tube that has a rubberized handle to the mascara wand so it’s easier to hold and work with. The bristles are natural bristles which I definitely prefer. I’m not a fan of those plastic bristle mascaras at all.

The brush also has this twisted effect to it which I’m guessing is designed to create that volume to your lashes. For me this mascara worked great, it gave me long thick lashes and my only issue with it was that I had to wait a minute for it to dry.

Last of these Essence products that I have is one of their new Shine Shine Shine lipglosses in the shade 03 Friends of Glamour which may look like a boring purple pink lipgloss in the bottle. Let me set you straight and they you it’s not. It’s actually this gorgeous dual-chrome shade that comes out pink and has this intense indigo hue running through it.

There are over 10 shades within the range of these lipglosses so if such an intense colour isn’t your thing, they definitely have more natural colours to choose from. The applicator is your typical sponge tip and I found that the lipgloss went on super smooth onto the lips. It was a bit sticky in texture but the shade of it was just gorgeous.

This release from Essence as I’ve said is huge, and they have some amazing products for an affordable price. I highly recommend you guys check out these products. Also let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried anything from the range that I haven’t yet…any excuse will do 😉

Eyeliners, Eyes, Highlighter

Essence SS17

I recently did an overview post about Essence Spring Summer 2017 releases and thought why not go pick up some of the range to try for myself especially because these are part of Essence’s permanent line for the coming months. I ended up purchasing three items in total, though one of them is actually a 4-pan build it yourself palette so technically it’s six items that I got.

I think it makes the most sense for me to start with the palette. Essence have really adopted the whole MAC Cosmetics approach when it comes to this. They have released eyeshadows, blushes and even lipsticks all in pan form. These pans can then be inserted into the 8 or 4 pan palette holders depending on how many you wish to purchase. I myself only went for the 4 pan palette, and I ended up filling it with 3 eyeshadows and the 1 highlighter shade that they released.

The first shade that I got is called 06 Raspberry Frosting and this is a gorgeous popping pink shade that has silver shimmer running through it. The one thing I didn’t like about the shadows, and I’m talking about the ones that have shimmer in them, is that they also have this chunky glitter spray over to them.

Though I love the shade of this shadow, I personally didn’t like the formulation of it. It’s very powdery and has a ton of fallout when your working with it on the eyes. That said though once it’s blended in it has amazing colour pay-off and looks really pretty on the eyes.

The second shade that I got is called 11 Stay In Coral Bay. I love the colour of this shade, it reminds me a lot of one of my favourite shadows from Urban Decay, Fireball except this one doesn’t have that dual-chrome effect that Fireball has. Instead it’s got this super pretty high iridescent gold shimmer running through it.

Though it’s also got a spray over on it, it isn’t as bad as some of the other shades as the gold glitter is very finely sprayed on top. I should mention that once the spray over is gone, it doesn’t mean the shadows end up being matte, they do have shimmer running through the pan throughout.

Last of the eyeshadows that I got is in the shade 18 Black As A Berry and this is one of those shades that looks super boring in the pan and once it’s on the eyes your like WOW! I love the cranberry shade of this colour, and the fact that it does have a slight satin sheen to it when it’s on the eyes.

For my final slot in my palette, I got only highlighter shade that they released in pan form called 01 Let it Glow. This is a dud, it doesn’t have any shimmer or iridescence to it. It’s matte and even using it as a matte highlighter gives no highlight whatsoever. Major fail when it comes to this as a highlighter. It’s more of a setting powder in my opinion and if you want to get it to use it as such then it works a dream because the powder is actually quite nice on the skin, and blends in beautifully.

Rainbow highlighters was a trend that hit Instagram hugely back in 2016 and thought it’s not as strong going as it was back then it’s still a popular trend. Essence has decided to release its own version, and me being someone who has never tried a rainbow highlighter before, decided to get one to try out.

I absolutely love this highlighter! It’s probably not one I would wear everyday or one that I would wear a lot but colour of it is simply stunning. Each of the shades in the pan is beautifully pigmented and packs a high intense shine when applied onto the cheekbones. Another great thing about this palette, is that if your not a fan of using all of these shades in the one go, then the strips are wide enough apart that you can go in with a smaller brush and choose only one shade out of the four and use it by itself instead.

Last of my purchases is the Essence Cushion Eyeliner and this is your cushion foundation trend in eyeliner form. Absolutely love this eyeliner! Huge must have. It’s super pigmented and really black so no worries about getting that whole charcoal black effect.

In case your wondering what I’m on about when I say cushion eyeliner, what it is is a sponge that is placed into the jar of the eyeliner and soaked with the eyeliner liquid so that it decreased the chances of the liquid liner drying out. It also reduces the amount of product you end using as the cushion dispenses just the right amount.

For application I highly recommend using a fine liner brush as a angled liner brush tends to become over saturated with product and then it’s just a mess when you go to apply it. This eyeliner retailed for 3.80 euros and the highlighter was 4.40 euros. All of the pans individually retailed for 1.90 euros and the actual pan holder/palette was 2.50 euros.

Let me know if you’ve recently picked up anything from Essence Cosmetics new summer releases and what you picked up.

Essence Little Beauty Angels

Essence Cosmetics seems to have caught on that colour correcting is a major trend this year and using it to achieve that flawless selfie picture perfect look is a must. Like most makeup brands they have released a Spring 2017 collection and rather than give us something pretty and floral like all the others they have definitely gone the more practical route with their release. Tying in with the whole colour correcting trend, Essence Cosmetics spring 2017 release brings out every possible product need for colour correcting any imperfections or discolouration that may be present on ones skin. This collection is available in Primark/Pennys stores and Essence retailers starting from mid-March to mid-April and is limited edition.
