Essence “& the Lovely Little Things” Trend Edition

I’m a little bit late with this trend edition this month as I was away on holidays when it launched mid August but as far as I know it’s still available until the end of September. This trend edition is called “& the lovely little things” and it’s  capsule collection of three eyeshadow palettes, 2 lip balms, 4 nail polishes, nail file, nail stickers and a gorgeous contour, blush and highlight palette. The only thing I don’t have from the collection for this review today is the nail polishes but I will insert HD Images at the end just so you guys can see the colours available.

SAM_3471

Lets start with my favourite from the collection and that’s the lip balms. Both of these lip balms are the exact formulation wise. They only differ with their scents and outer packaging. The pink tube is called 01…& you smile and it has a strawberry scent to it while the peach one is called 02…& we kissed and you guessed it, it has a peach scent to it.

SAM_3474

The formulation of these lip balms is absolutely lovely. Very hydrating and just the right amount of slip to them for them to go onto the lips smoothly. Out of the two I personally have been using the pink one but only because I prefer the scent of strawberries over peaches. Highly recommend these as they are very handbag friendly and great for on the go.

SAM_3478

For the eyes, this collection has three different eyeshadow palettes. Each palette has seven shadows and a brush/sponge applicator. They all don’t have a mirror because the lids have cute designs added to them. Personally I would have liked a slide out mirror from the bottom but that’s only because I think all eyeshadow palettes should come with a mirror.

SAM_3480

Two of the three palettes would be considered on the warmer side of things colour wise. They have very neutral and earthy tones as their eyeshadow shades. The texture of the shadows in all of the palettes is buttery soft but I did find the some of the lighter shades barely had any pigmentation to the point where I had to swatch them using the sponge applicator in order for me to show you the colour of it.

The matte shades are also more powdery than the shimmer shades but to be honest on the eyes both formulations blend out beautifully and last quite a good while on the eyes. The first of the palettes is called 01…& my BFF on the phone and it has 6 matte shades and one shimmer shade.

SAM_3481

The second palette is called 02…& the love story with my wardrobe. It has 6 shimmery shades and one matte shade.

SAM_3479

Last palette is probably what would be called the smoky palette from the collection and it’s called 03…& our secret date at midnight. Eyeshadow wise it has three mattes and four shimmers.

SAM_3475

This collection does contain a face palette and it’s called 01…& my crazy family. This palette has two gorgeous blush shades, two highlighters and two contouring shades. I love everything bar the contouring shades.

SAM_3476

Formulation and texture wise all of them are super soft and smooth, with minimum powder kickback. My issue with the contour shades is that they’re just a tad bit warm for using as contour, they’re more suited as bronzers but other than that it’s very much a gorgeous palette.

SAM_3482

The final products from the collection are all nail products and they include a cute double side nail file which is excellent at filing nails, some nail stickers which you have the option of using either on your nails or to enhance the packaging of the palettes by popping them on and four beautiful shades of nail polish which I’ve added HD Images of below.

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Taking care of my nails is not something I tend to do on a regular basis. I’m the type of person who files their nails when their short so that the nail grows into that shape. I do wear a base coat and a top coat when I decide to paint them. The minute one of my long nails breaks I chop off the rest and the re-growing process starts again. I have recently however discovered the benefits of using a cuticle oil as part of my nail care regimen. The main reason why my long nails tend to break is because as they grow they become more brittle and so they begin to snap off. Since I started using a cuticle oil my nails have grown longer and healthier plus it has also added a nice shine to them. The one I’m currently using is the NailHQ Cuticle Oil which has almond oil as it’s main ingredient.

SAM_3024

The cuticle oil comes in typical nail polish packaging and even has a nail polish brush as it’s applicator. If the words cuticle oil weren’t written across it you would probably think is was a cool shade of yellow nail polish. I personally think they should have made the applicator a dropper instead of a brush just to give it a distinguishable bottle from nail polish.

SAM_3026

The oil itself is very thin and when its applied it absorbs almost instantly. I found that there was no greasiness associated with it as an oil whatsoever. The way I like to apply it is by popping a drop of it onto the nail bed and then massaging it into the actual nail gently using my finger. It has a nice citrus lemon scent to it that is rather nice.

I personally have really enjoyed using this product on my nails. It conditions the nails beautifully and makes them look nice and hydrated plus it gets rid of the brittleness that tends to happen as they grow.

Nail HQ Protect & Repair Nail Polish

Top coats and base coats and how to choose both can be tricky business when it comes to your nails. Most people tend to gravitate towards fast drying top coats, and while I can get on board with that (I hate waiting for nail polish to dry) I also sometimes wonder what’s the point. Shouldn’t we be realistically applying a nail polish on our nails for a benefit that is more than just high shine. Nail HQ, a nail polish brand that I have featured before on this blog is probably one of my favourite brands for finding multi-action nail base and top coats. The one I’m featuring today is their Protect & Repair nail polish which is a treatment base coat.

SAM_2282

This nail polish is designed for the rejuvenation of the nails after you’ve had fake nails, shellac or even gel nails on. All of those nail treatments, even though they look pretty for the 4 weeks you have them on, still wreck the nails and put them in a less then pretty appearance once you take the fake nails/shellac off. This polish can be applied on its own or as a base coat under regular polish for when your taking a break from the more longer term nail treatments.

SAM_2283

Like all Nail HQ polishes, the packaging is a lovely frosted glass bottle. The polish itself is tinted yellow however it just applies transparent on the nails and gives a lovely shine when its worn on it’s own. I, personally find it great as a base coat under regular polish as it restores your nails and makes them healthy but you don’t have to compromise not having a pretty manicure.

SAM_2285

The brush of this polish is relatively thin so you do need two strokes to cover the entire nail with enough polish. Because it’s a base coat you don’t need more than one layer of this. It’s recommend to remove it after two weeks and then reapply it to get the most benefit out of it’s healing properties.

All Nail HQ products are available in local pharmacies, Tesco Irl and the Invogue International website.

Nail Polish, Nails

NailHQ Growth Base Coat

I honestly have been trying to feature more nail related products on my site but it’s been quite difficult as I’m not one to have the patience with waiting for polish to dry. As a result I tend to gravitate towards sheer polish and clear polishes and who wants to see posts about what is basically how to achieve shiny nails. I do however find that when a clear polish has added benefits that help your nails it’s nice to recommend them to others and so I bring to you today the Growth Base Coat from the nail polish brand NailHQ.

sam_2274

NailHQ mostly specializes in nail care polishes and my favourite from their range has got to be the Growth polish. This polish is designed to harden nails so that they are less fragile and hence less likely to break, making them grow instead. Now I don’t have weak nails in general but whenever I do the washing up I do find my nails have become soft and tend to chip a little while later. When I had this on, they remained hard all the way through the washing so I highly recommend it for those who are to busy with the house and kids and work to take time off for a professional manicure.

sam_2275

sam_2277

The polish is tinted a pink colour however this only brings out the natural pink tones pigments in the natural nail. It doesn’t provide any colour itself. You can wear it by itself as I have done for this post or wear it as a base coat underneath regular nail polishes to ensure longevity in your manicure. I love the shine that it provides to natural nails, it makes them look healthier than they really are.

NailHQ Gel Top Coat

Nail polish for me is very much a love hate relationship. I love nail polish when it comes to colours, varying formulations and brands. I hate waiting for it to dry! Now I could probably list about 101 ways for you to dry yours nails quickly but I think there are more than enough YouTube videos available on the topic. For me the fastest method of drying your nails quickly is to use a fast drying top coat. NailHQ is a brand that specialises in you guessed it Nails! They have a bunch of different base and top coats along with other polishes that can be used to strengthen your nails if you need too. But for today I’m only going to be focusing on their Gel Top Coat.

sam_2278

Packaging isn’t anything fancy  but it is practical in that the bottle is double glassed and thick meaning a few bangs off the kitchen floor won’t be sending it into a hundred pieces. The brush is a nice medium thickness. For my nails I need two swipes to get the polish to coat my entire nail evenly.

sam_2280

sam_2281

An essential element that any top coat that I use must have is a high shine finish. I don’t like matte nails. This top coat in all honesty didn’t give any better of a shine than my normal top coat (I normally use the Nails Inc Top Coat) but it did give an amazing shine non-the-less. I’ve used it over the L’oreal nail polish in the shade Nude Demoiselle (pictured).

The NailHQ range is currently available in Tesco Stores and you can also find them via the NailHQ website if your interested.

SoSueMe Nail Polish

Way back in September I attended the Flormar Event Dublin! #FabulousFlormar and on the day I ended up winning a SoSueMe by Suzanne Jackson hamper filled with some of her iconic products. I was planning on doing a what I got post but realized that all that was in the hamper was the palette, lashes and these polishes so it really would have been a boring post. That being said I still want to feature the products on the site so I will definitely some time in the near future be publishing a review of the contour palette but for today I’ve decided to give you guys my thoughts on the nail polishes that I received.

sam_2109

I got two in the hamper the I’m going to begin with my favourite out of the two. It’s the SoSueMe nail polish in the shade Fairy Wings. This is an amazing soft lilac/lavender toned purple polish and purple being my favourite colour I was head over heels in love with this shade the minute I popped it on my nails. The actual bottle that the polishes come in has been really well designed with the rose gold cap and the chic square bottle to give a high-end feel to a highstreet brand.

img_20160922_200013

Formulation wise they are a bit inconsistent in my opinion. The shade Fairy Wings had an amazing formulation in that application was smooth and highly pigmented with the one coat. I personally always paint my nails two coats regardless just to avoid chips. However I found that the second shade’s formulation was completely different in that the first coat went on completely transparent and then when I applied the second coat it became a little bit streaky. The top coat that I used helped a lot in hiding those streaks.

sam_2108

The second shade that I got is called I Do and it’s very much true to it’s name. It’s that perfect cream shade that would look amazing for bride’s nail or even bridesmaids. I love the colour don’t get me wrong but I’m not a fan of this particular shades formulation. I also found that there was an inconsistency with the brushes of the polishes as well.

img_20160922_200103

The shade Fairy Wings had a nice wide brush that covered the nail with one swipe, making application so easy. I Do, however had a thinner brush which I personally found to be the reason for the polish going on so streaky. I love the shades, and depending on the shade I love the formulation. I however won’t be purchasing anymore shades because the range is so inconsistent and a brand need to be consistent especially in something as basic as nail polish.

sam_2110

Before I go I will quickly review the nail polish remover that I also got in the hamper. You get 150mls of product and it is acetone-free and for an acetone-free remover it does take of polish quite nicely without leaving any behind. It is scented with raspberry and grape and I think there are other scents in the range. Weirdly the scent smells really nice in the bottle however I found when using it to remove the polish the scent clung to my fingertips which to be honest just ended up giving me a headache. To be honest I don’t think there’s anything special about the SoSueMe nail polish remover that you need to run out and buy it.

I don’t honestly know when I’ll have the review of the palette done, I’m still testing it out and giving it a good go. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the SoSueMe nail polishes and have found shades that are like Fairy Wings in formulation so I can maybe pick them up. I don’t want to waste my money on streaky nail polish 🙂

PS: My go to top coat for painting my nails is the Nails Inc. top coat with built in strengther…its pink in the bottle. 😉
