New in BarryM

BarryM Cosmetics has got to be one of the most price friendly brands in the drugstore. Their products don’t reach anything over 10 euros and most of the time they tend to have a three for two offer going on. For the summer they’ve really been launching some great products into their line and I’ve managed to pick of a few to show you guys.

SAM_3136

First up is their new Flawless Hydro Fix Primer Water which, lets be honest, is a direct dupe for the Smashbox Primer Water. I have to say I’m a huge fan of this product. Your meant to use it in place of your typical primer but I personally use it in conjunction. I apply on my primer and then mist a light layer of this over it. It’s basically making your primer last longer so in turn your primer makes your makeup last longer.

SAM_3138The actual mister on the bottle is great too, it doesn’t splatter nor spritz. It disperses the primer water in a nice light mist evenly over the face. The only real thing I didn’t like about this product was it’s smell. It does have a slight chemically waif to it. Also if you use this to wet an eyeshadow it does work but you have to work super fast at blending because once the shadow sets ain’t nothing gonna make it move.

SAM_3139

Liquid highlighters are probably my favourite thing ever to mix in with foundation for that dewy summer look. The Light Me Up! liquid highlighter from BarryM is a great one to use for that because it doesn’t have any chunky glitter in it. It’s very similar in consistence to the L’oreal True Match Liquid Highlighters that I still love and use.

SAM_3189

Though it looks super dark in the bottle, it does come out more of a rose gold shade and when mixed with your foundation it gives you a nice sunkissed effect to your complexion. Again I only have one issue with this product and that’s that you don’t get a whole lot of it, and because I mix it with my foundation I know I’m going to be going through it super quick.

SAM_3142

Ever since seeing swatches of this palette on Instagram I simply knew I needed it in my life. The Cosmic Lights palette comes with six beautiful shades of highlighter, four a cream formulation and two are powder. It also has a cute little mirror in the lid so extra brownie points for that.

SAM_3144

Packaging wise it really isn’t the greatest. It comes in cardboard that feels like it’s gonna fall apart or rip at any second. That said the actual product is amazing. All of the cream formulations are nice and creamy to apply. They don’t have the highest intensity nor pigmentation but that’s to be expected as the idea of this palette is to layer the powder highlights over the creams. The powders are super soft too and they have great pigmentation which makes them a dream to blend.

BarryM wouldn’t be BarryM without a nail polish collection launch now would they. And they sure didn’t disappoint by releasing 5 new shades to add to their Molten Metals line. I picked up four of these shades but I won’t be saying anything about them here as I’m planning on doing a separate review for them with swatches of all of them on my actual nails so stay tuned.

SAM_3140

Those are all the new products that I’ve picked up recently from BarryM though I’m sure those weren’t their only new launches. Let me know in comments if you’ve gotten anything new even if it’s not BarryM, it’ll give me an excuse to pop into Boots 🙂

Nail HQ Protect & Repair Nail Polish

Top coats and base coats and how to choose both can be tricky business when it comes to your nails. Most people tend to gravitate towards fast drying top coats, and while I can get on board with that (I hate waiting for nail polish to dry) I also sometimes wonder what’s the point. Shouldn’t we be realistically applying a nail polish on our nails for a benefit that is more than just high shine. Nail HQ, a nail polish brand that I have featured before on this blog is probably one of my favourite brands for finding multi-action nail base and top coats. The one I’m featuring today is their Protect & Repair nail polish which is a treatment base coat.

SAM_2282

This nail polish is designed for the rejuvenation of the nails after you’ve had fake nails, shellac or even gel nails on. All of those nail treatments, even though they look pretty for the 4 weeks you have them on, still wreck the nails and put them in a less then pretty appearance once you take the fake nails/shellac off. This polish can be applied on its own or as a base coat under regular polish for when your taking a break from the more longer term nail treatments.

SAM_2283

Like all Nail HQ polishes, the packaging is a lovely frosted glass bottle. The polish itself is tinted yellow however it just applies transparent on the nails and gives a lovely shine when its worn on it’s own. I, personally find it great as a base coat under regular polish as it restores your nails and makes them healthy but you don’t have to compromise not having a pretty manicure.

SAM_2285

The brush of this polish is relatively thin so you do need two strokes to cover the entire nail with enough polish. Because it’s a base coat you don’t need more than one layer of this. It’s recommend to remove it after two weeks and then reapply it to get the most benefit out of it’s healing properties.

All Nail HQ products are available in local pharmacies, Tesco Irl and the Invogue International website.

NailHQ Growth Base Coat

I honestly have been trying to feature more nail related products on my site but it’s been quite difficult as I’m not one to have the patience with waiting for polish to dry. As a result I tend to gravitate towards sheer polish and clear polishes and who wants to see posts about what is basically how to achieve shiny nails. I do however find that when a clear polish has added benefits that help your nails it’s nice to recommend them to others and so I bring to you today the Growth Base Coat from the nail polish brand NailHQ.

sam_2274

NailHQ mostly specializes in nail care polishes and my favourite from their range has got to be the Growth polish. This polish is designed to harden nails so that they are less fragile and hence less likely to break, making them grow instead. Now I don’t have weak nails in general but whenever I do the washing up I do find my nails have become soft and tend to chip a little while later. When I had this on, they remained hard all the way through the washing so I highly recommend it for those who are to busy with the house and kids and work to take time off for a professional manicure.

sam_2275

sam_2277

The polish is tinted a pink colour however this only brings out the natural pink tones pigments in the natural nail. It doesn’t provide any colour itself. You can wear it by itself as I have done for this post or wear it as a base coat underneath regular nail polishes to ensure longevity in your manicure. I love the shine that it provides to natural nails, it makes them look healthier than they really are.

NailHQ Gel Top Coat

Nail polish for me is very much a love hate relationship. I love nail polish when it comes to colours, varying formulations and brands. I hate waiting for it to dry! Now I could probably list about 101 ways for you to dry yours nails quickly but I think there are more than enough YouTube videos available on the topic. For me the fastest method of drying your nails quickly is to use a fast drying top coat. NailHQ is a brand that specialises in you guessed it Nails! They have a bunch of different base and top coats along with other polishes that can be used to strengthen your nails if you need too. But for today I’m only going to be focusing on their Gel Top Coat.

sam_2278

Packaging isn’t anything fancy  but it is practical in that the bottle is double glassed and thick meaning a few bangs off the kitchen floor won’t be sending it into a hundred pieces. The brush is a nice medium thickness. For my nails I need two swipes to get the polish to coat my entire nail evenly.

sam_2280

sam_2281

An essential element that any top coat that I use must have is a high shine finish. I don’t like matte nails. This top coat in all honesty didn’t give any better of a shine than my normal top coat (I normally use the Nails Inc Top Coat) but it did give an amazing shine non-the-less. I’ve used it over the L’oreal nail polish in the shade Nude Demoiselle (pictured).

The NailHQ range is currently available in Tesco Stores and you can also find them via the NailHQ website if your interested.

SoSueMe Nail Polish

Way back in September I attended the Flormar Event Dublin! #FabulousFlormar and on the day I ended up winning a SoSueMe by Suzanne Jackson hamper filled with some of her iconic products. I was planning on doing a what I got post but realized that all that was in the hamper was the palette, lashes and these polishes so it really would have been a boring post. That being said I still want to feature the products on the site so I will definitely some time in the near future be publishing a review of the contour palette but for today I’ve decided to give you guys my thoughts on the nail polishes that I received.

sam_2109

I got two in the hamper the I’m going to begin with my favourite out of the two. It’s the SoSueMe nail polish in the shade Fairy Wings. This is an amazing soft lilac/lavender toned purple polish and purple being my favourite colour I was head over heels in love with this shade the minute I popped it on my nails. The actual bottle that the polishes come in has been really well designed with the rose gold cap and the chic square bottle to give a high-end feel to a highstreet brand.

img_20160922_200013

Formulation wise they are a bit inconsistent in my opinion. The shade Fairy Wings had an amazing formulation in that application was smooth and highly pigmented with the one coat. I personally always paint my nails two coats regardless just to avoid chips. However I found that the second shade’s formulation was completely different in that the first coat went on completely transparent and then when I applied the second coat it became a little bit streaky. The top coat that I used helped a lot in hiding those streaks.

sam_2108

The second shade that I got is called I Do and it’s very much true to it’s name. It’s that perfect cream shade that would look amazing for bride’s nail or even bridesmaids. I love the colour don’t get me wrong but I’m not a fan of this particular shades formulation. I also found that there was an inconsistency with the brushes of the polishes as well.

img_20160922_200103

The shade Fairy Wings had a nice wide brush that covered the nail with one swipe, making application so easy. I Do, however had a thinner brush which I personally found to be the reason for the polish going on so streaky. I love the shades, and depending on the shade I love the formulation. I however won’t be purchasing anymore shades because the range is so inconsistent and a brand need to be consistent especially in something as basic as nail polish.

sam_2110

Before I go I will quickly review the nail polish remover that I also got in the hamper. You get 150mls of product and it is acetone-free and for an acetone-free remover it does take of polish quite nicely without leaving any behind. It is scented with raspberry and grape and I think there are other scents in the range. Weirdly the scent smells really nice in the bottle however I found when using it to remove the polish the scent clung to my fingertips which to be honest just ended up giving me a headache. To be honest I don’t think there’s anything special about the SoSueMe nail polish remover that you need to run out and buy it.

I don’t honestly know when I’ll have the review of the palette done, I’m still testing it out and giving it a good go. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the SoSueMe nail polishes and have found shades that are like Fairy Wings in formulation so I can maybe pick them up. I don’t want to waste my money on streaky nail polish 🙂

PS: My go to top coat for painting my nails is the Nails Inc. top coat with built in strengther…its pink in the bottle. 😉

Sublime Cosmetics Polishes

I’ve mentioned before on my blog and in my posts that I am a huge advocate in supporting Irish based cosmetic brands. As a result I recently discovered a brand called Sublime Cosmetics and immediately got in touch with them in hope to be able to feature them on my blog.

sam_1902

This company is mostly famous for their self-tanner but I am very much a lover of embrace the paleness of ones skin so I didn’t feel right featuring it on my blog. However they also produce Gel based nail polishes and so I was sent a few to test and try out.

sam_1917

I got sent two formulations and one I liked and the other not so much. Let’s start with the bad one so we can end this post on a high note. This first polish is the Sublime Cosmetics Hybird Gel Polish ad I received both the top coat, base coat and a coloured polish in shade #987 Underwater.

sam_1915

My camera didn’t really pick this polish up in it’s true colour. It’s a lot more vibrant and a lot more blue than the green that’s in the photo. The thing about this polish is that the formulation is so thick that it constantly felt sticky even though it had been cured via UV light. I kept feeling like my polish was constantly only semi-dry even though it didn’t smudge, budge or stick to anything. It just felt sticky to the touch. I also am not a fan of the colour, but that’s more personally preference. This is of course with the base coat and the top coat applied.

sam_1919

The brush on this polishes is nice and wide and great for applying polish to the entire nail in one stroke. Also I will say that after I removed these polishes from my nails, my nails weren’t dry or brittle like most gel manicures cause. The nail polish itself lasted for a full 3 weeks without chipping so other than the sticky feeling these polishes are good….its just the stickiness.

sam_1910

The second formulation that they sent me I absolutely love. I got sent 2 different shades and the first of the two is my favourite mostly because of the shade colour. This shade is called #133 Pink Velvet and this polish is the Sublime Cosmetics Peel Off Gel Polish. Yes you read that right, it’s peel off! It’s polish that you apply, cure, and then simply peel off, no acetone required.

sam_1913

Even though they’re peel off, they also last really well on the nails and they don’t have that sticky feeling that the other formulation has. These lasted a little bit less than the other formulation with them chipping in 2 weeks rather than 3 but I still prefer them. My only issue with these polishes is the smell. They smell so chemical like that you need to have a window open when using these polishes. The second shade that I received is called #119 Rose Velvet.

These polishes are available to purchase from the Sublime Cosmetics website which I shall link below. The peel off polishes do have the words Limited Edition written on them but I’m not sure if that is for the formulation or for the shades.
