Clarins Water Lip Stains

Hold the phones! This is not a drill…..but I think I found the PERFECT and I mean perfect summer products for the lips. These have literally only launched on Clarins counters yesterday and they are the Clarins Water Lip Stains and they are beautiful.

The lip stains come looking like they’re little nail polishes but obviously they’re not. Each bottle color corresponds with the color that you will get when you initially apply the lip stain on. Once they wear down they tend to be similar in shade color. I have to give a huge shout out to whoever designed the applicator on this product because it’s literally the best for getting a nice even coat on the lips in one go.

When first applied these give such plumpness to the lips, they are super glossy giving that high shine editorial effect. Pigmentation wise they pack a punch and all in the one coat. Once the gloss of them wears down, you’re left with a lovely soft matte stain to lips that, if I was to describe the color of it, is a nice soft Camilla pink. There are four shades in this total and the first of them is called Rose Water.

Shade two is for those of us who love to rock a amazing coral lip during the hotter months of the year. This shade is called Orange Water.

No lipstick range is ever complete without a bold red shade and this is the perfect high pigmented red that Marilyn Monroe who have loved to own.

The shade is called Red Water and I personally love this with a minimum makeup look on the eyes in order to keep it the main focus in any makeup look.

This last shade is called Violet Water and it is my favourite of the four. I can never say no to a good strong vampy purple lippie and this definitely delivers. It’s not as deep as some purple lippies can be but it does have the strongest pigmentation with regards to the stain it leaves behind once the gloss of it wears down.

As mentioned these launched yesterday so they are available right now at all Clarins counter nationwide. I believe they retail for 21 euros a piece which in my opinion is very affordable given how unique of a product they are.

Clarins Joli Rouge Lipsticks

I’ll be honest in saying that when people ask me to recommend good makeup brands to buy from, Clarins is not the first to come to mind. Skincare? Yes it comes first hands down but makeup not so much. That said, as of late, Clarins as a brand has been upping their game so much that they are literally kicking aside, in my opinion the other makeup brands that I would normally recommend.

One of their most recent launches has been a massive selection of new shades to their Joli Rouge lipstick line and these are called the Joli Rouge Velvets. First off can we please just appreciate the packaging. It’s honestly so elegant with how simple and classic it is. A simple gold reflective tube, couldn’t be easier.

From the Joli Rouge Velvet range I have one shade called Soft Berry. This is a gorgeous brick nude shade that definitely has a mauve undertone running through it. The formulation of these is what I would call a comfort matte. They are super buttery and creamy to apply. They dry down matte but yet still have a nice slip to them that ensures your lips don’t go dry and flaky. If mattes simply aren’t your thing then they also have incredible shades in their Joli Rouge Brillants range.

The Brillants have a glossy finish to them which does mean they don’t last as long on the lips as the Velvets but that’s the only place where the differ. Other than that they have the same amazing creamy formula with amazing pigmentation. I have two shades for this range.

The first is Woodberry and this is very much a classic mauve shade that literally goes with any, and I mean any makeup look.

The second shade that I have is Joli Rouge and this is hands down on of the most stunning red lipstick shades that I have ever owned. It’s the perfect glossy, marilyn monroe red shade that makes your lips look super plump and hydrated.

These lipsticks retail for 24 euros each and are available at most Clarins counters right now.

MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick

MAC Cosmetics is the one makeup brand that when I see a counter for it, I run straight for the lipsticks and start swatching all of them immediately. I think they are kings/queens (I’m not labelling) of lipstick making. Because of my love for their lipsticks I tend to add one to my collection each and every time I find a MAC counter-which isn’t often as I live in Waterford & the closest counter is up in Dublin City.

My latest addition to my MAC Lipstick collection is the shade Smoke Purple which is a fairly famous shade as it’s the shade that the singer Lorde uses as her signature colour. I love dark and rich colours on my lips so whenever I’m going to spend 20 euros for a lipstick, I’m going to choose a colour that I will wear quite frequently. Smoked Purple comes in the iconic MAC bullet packaging, like all the other lipsticks they do, and is a member of their retro matte formulated lipsticks.

SAM_3577The colour is simply the most gorgeous deep vampy purple that, even though it’s a retro matte, is very comfortable on the lips and suits most if not all skin-tones. I personally love applying MAC’s Nightmoth lip liner on under it as this colour, because of how dark it is, can be a small bit patchy when applied on the lips just on it’s own. Nightmoth is literally the same colour but in lip liner form.

Please let me know what your favourite MAC Cosmetics lipstick is in the comments so I can add it to my list of lipsticks to pick up 🙂

Balmkind Lipbalm

Lipbalms are one of those things in my skin routine that I have to be constantly changing simply because my lips, for some strange reason, tend to grow accustomed to any lipbalms that actually work on them. What I mean by that is I will find a lipbalm that I like and that actually works in keeping my lips hydrated but then after a while it stops working on them and they go back to being their old chapped selves. It annoys me so much when this happens and it’s happened alot-regardless of the price tag that comes attached to the lipbalm.

Recently I was lucky enough to be sent the BalmKind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm to try out and to be honest my lips desperately need it as I’ve just recovered from a bad case of the flu and I have literally no moisture left in them at all. The lipbalm comes in the most gorgeous blush pink tube that contains 10 ls of product in it. The texture of it is like a gel and it has a nice cooling effect to the lips when it’s applied. I personally found it to feel more like a mask on the lips than a lipbalm which I have to say I really like, especially because I can reserve this for the nightime and have soft lips when I wake up in the morning.

The tube has the typical doe-foot slanted applicator to it which to be honest I wish had some sort of sponge on it because it feels very hard and plastic against the lips when applying it. The colour of the lipbalm is the same as the tube which is a nice touch I have to say. For those of you worried about the scent and taste of it seeing as it contains rose I found the scent wise it doesn’t linger-literally gone the minute you apply it it. With regards to taste it really doesn’t have one.

I have to say I have really enjoyed using this lipbalm for the past two weeks and can say it has saved my lips after them be so dehydrated from being flu-ridden. I just hope it stays working on them in the future.

Catrice Cosmetics Lip Dresser Lipsticks

I have to say I absolutely love it when brands with a low price tag take inspiration from high end brands in making and formulating their products and that’s exactly what Catrice Cosmetics did with these gorgeous lipsticks. Inspired by the very practical click button dispenser of the ByTerry Stylo Pens these lipsticks are probably some the best for popping into your handbag for on the go.

I have to stress that when it comes to taking inspiration from high end brands, the lower priced brand doesn’t always get it right in that they just simply copy the high end brand and stick their logo onto it. Catrice Cosmetics hasn’t done that with these, it’s simply taken the way the product is dispensed from the packaging and adapted it into it’s own brands aesthetic and design so well done Catrice.

Like I said the only thing that’s the same with these lippies as the ByTerry ones is the clickable dispenser that’s at the base of the pen/packaging. Other than that they are worlds apart. These lipsticks come in a gorgeous sleek black rounded tube that has a click-on lid which also holds the label as to what shade the lipstick is. I personally couldn’t resists picking up two of these because the shade range is so natural and faltering that all the shades can easily be worn on a daily basis without being over-done.

The first shade that I purchased is the shade 010 Simply Natural Perfection and this is a soft english rose shade that looks amazing on almost any skin tone. I personally found the formulation of these super comfortable on the lips. They definitely have a satin finish to them so they aren’t long lasting but I did find them to last well up until you decide to eat something.

The second shade that I have is 020 When the Sun Goes Brown and this is more of a mauve nude shade with a deep brown undertone running through it. I will say the only downside to these lippies is that you do only get 1.4 grams of product in the bullet which in comparison to a regular lippie, 6 grams, is only a quarter of the amount.

The Catrice Cosmetics Lipdresser lipsticks retail only for 5.50 euros each and can be bought from any Catrice Cosmetics stand as well as the Inish Pharmacy website which I have added the link to below.

E.L.F Lip Exfoliator

Lip scrubs are probably the easiest beauty product to get wrong. They can sometimes be too gritty and harsh on the lips or not have enough exfoliation to them so that they end up being pointless to use. Recently, while browsing Penneys (Primarks’ more cute name dubbed and used only here in Ireland), I discovered that they had installed an E.L.F Cosmetics stand and so I decided to pick up their Lip Exfoliator
to try.

Initially I picked it up in the flavour/taste that is Sweet Cherry and I have to say since getting this product I have been obsessed with it. The lip scrub comes in a very handy lipstick tube and it itself is shaped like a lipstick bullet, which makes it so easy to use. The texture of the scrub is nice and coarse but not overly so which means it gets rid of any flakiness but it doesn’t hurt or make your lips raw whilst doing so.

Because I loved it in Sweet Cherry I decided I needed to try out other flavours/tastes available so I got it in Mint Maniac as well. I personally still prefer the Sweet Cherry but I do like the Mint Maniac as well, it has the same texture and feel to it as the Sweet Cherry and works exactly the same on the lips. This makes me happy as it means the quality of the product is consistent regardless of the flavour.

These lip scrubs retail for 6.49 euros which is considerably cheaper than my normal lip scrub, Lush Cosmetic’s Bubblegum Lip Scrub, which retails for 13.49 euros a pot and is definitely harsher and more gritty than these. I also found these more moisturizing on the lips than the Lush Cosmetics ones.

I really do want to try more products from E.L.F Cosmetics so if you could leave any recommendations in the comments below that would be great.

L.O.V. FatalMuse Liquid Matte Lipstick

It’s no secret on this blog that I am a huge fan of L.O.V. Cosmetics seeing as last month I did an entire three part series simply reviewing their products. I shall link those posts below in the case any of you didn’t catch them or are new to my blog. For today’s post I’m focusing on a newer release of theirs and that’s their FatalMuse Liquid Matte Lipsticks.

Whenever I hear the word Matte in liquid lipsticks I’m automatically turned off because I have this instinctive fear that it’s going to be super drying on the lips and I tend to prefer my lips to be hydrated (with the exception of when I want to wear my M.A.C Russian Red Lipstick). These are not drying whatsoever, they are actually really smooth on the lips and set almost with a velvet finish. Pigmentation of them is intense with a high colour payoff.

The applicator is nice and thin making it possible for you to initially go around your lips with it to outline them before filling them in completely with the flattened side of it. I have two shades out of the ten available and both of them I love completely because they’re nice vampy shades that are perfect for the coming fall months.

The first of the two shades that I have is No. 770 Extrovert which is a nice berry shade with a slight red undertone to it. I found these to last roughly 8 hours on my lips without touch ups and through non-greasy food. With gresy food however they do tend to break down slightly because of the oil.

The second shade that I have is No. 780 Bold Attitude which is a nice cranberry shade and out of the two I definitely gravitate towards this one more. Layering wise these don’t cake especially if you stick to nice thin coats when applying it. That said because these are so opaque you really shouldn’t need more than one swipe.
