Face Powders, Highlighter

Bare Minerals Invisible Glow Highlighting Powders

If I had to pick a high end brand other than Urban Decay to be my favourite it would definitely be BareMinerals. There is very little that I’ve tried from BareMinerals that I didn’t like and because of that I have quite a few of their products within my cosmetics collection. Recently I picked up their Invisible Glow powders because ever since I discovered the soft illuminator from the L.O.V Fall Collection 2017 I have been hooked on subtle highlights for my complexion. It just looks so pretty and natural and soft.

SAM_3685

There are two shades available in the range and the first shade is the lightest of the two. It’s called Fair to Light and is a white pearl-scent shade with peach shimmer running very, very subtly through it. The powder is very finely milled and on the face it blends out seamlessly without any harsh lines. The shimmer isn’t chunky but lovely and soft almost candle lit glow like. If I was to compare this to anything currently on the market I would say it’s very similar to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.

SAM_3684

The second shade is called Medium and is definitely darker in colour than the previous shade. This is very much a peach toned highlighter but again because it’s so softly and finely milled it looks very subtle on the skin. I personally like taking this down a bit onto my cheek bones because I find the colour of it warms up my skintone whilst adding a nice glow to it overall.

These compacts currently retail for 30 euros each and I picked mine up from Debenhams Ireland who tend to do discount offers of 10-15% of makeup on a monthly basis so you can pick up this compact for less than 30 for sure.

Some Love 💓 for L.O.V Cosmetics PT•1

L.O.V Cosmetics is a brand that has only really been available in the last year here in Ireland. It’s stocked in almost every Shaws Department Store nationwide except unfortunately the Waterford store, which is the main reason why I haven’t featured it before. Still, that hasn’t stopped me from oohing and aahing over their gorgeous looking products over on Instagram and I was absolutely delighted when a massive parcel with my name on it arrive in the post containing a selection of their amazing products.

SAM_3384

Within the L.O.V Cosmetics range, there is three different options available for foundation. The Undressed 12H Moisturizing Foundation is probably what I would consider their light to medium coverage option. I personally really like this foundation, it’s very lightweight and blends out flawlessly with both brushes and sponges. The shade that I own is 040 Honey-Moon and in all honesty this was way too dark for me especially because it’s the third shade option out of four and I normally tend to be the lightest shade available.

SAM_3385

That said I did still try out this foundation, just around the house and found it very nice as an everyday foundation. Something just to pop on and be out the door. You do get your standard 30 ml amount of product in the tube which I have to say is not the most secure of packaging especially if you plan on travelling with this stuff. Finish wise it’s got a nice dewy effect to it and in terms of longevity, I found it lasted the 10 hours or so that I had it on without any issue whatsoever.

SAM_3387

Moving on to the next step from foundation and that is concealer. This is the EffectFul Concealer Pen and to be honest I’m absolutely in love with this product! Move over Maybelline and Burberry cause they got nothing on how good this is. This concealer is an absolute life-saver for anyone who suffers with dark circles under their eyes. As it is a brighten concealer is gets rid of those shadows without creasing and without feeling heavy. This concealer isn’t made to be used on blemishes so if that’s what your after I do not recommend this, but for dark circle suffers it’s a must.

SAM_3389

The sponge tip applicator is probably the best thing about this concealer as it makes the product go on so flawlessly, almost as if it’s airbrushed. It also ensures that just the right amount of product is applied. Comparing this to the Maybelline sponge tip, I definitely prefer this one as it doesn’t get as messy and unhygienic as the Maybelline one does.

SAM_3399

Last of the base products that I have to show you guys is the L.O.V Cosmetics Perfectitude Translucent Loose Powder. Whoever designed the packaging of this product needs an award of recognition for their amazing work. It comes in the traditional jar that most loose powders come in but this has an added sifter AND LID! It’s not messy to open, apply or travel with like 90% of loose powders tend to be.

SAM_3400

It also has a handy and very soft fluffy powder puff which does apply a bit too much of the product in my opinion but works great when you have nothing else to use. The actual powder itself is very finely milled in texture and gives almost a velvet finish to the skin. I will say that this powder does have both Talc and Silica as ingredients so it will give a bit of a white cast in photos and high lighting.

SAM_3403

I personally tend to like to do my brows straight after I finish my base, because no matter how light or heavy I am with my eye makeup, I like a very natural looking brow. Brow products can be very hit and miss especially when they come from very affordable brands such like L.O.V Cosmetics. This product is an exception though because not only is the colour of just the right amount of ashiness so that the brows don’t look too warm but it’s also got a great shape to the tip of it and a spoolie brush at the end. All in all a great brow product in my opinion.

SAM_3451

I have the L.O.V Cosmetics BROWttitude in the shade 230 Chocolate and as far as I know it comes in three other shades which can be suitable for both blondes and brunettes.

SAM_3382

This next product is actually a bit of an odd one because it’s actually a cream eyeshadow however I’ve found it way better and more faltering as a cream highlighter for my cheekbones. Makeup is makeup guys and you should be allowed to break the rules when it comes to products and where they should be applied.

SAM_3383

This is the L.O.V Cosmetics Metal Cream Eyeshadow in the shade 100 Metal Rose and it’s a gorgeous soft iridescent pink shade that I think will falter most pale complexions. If you’ve got darker skin then it will also look nice but it will just be a more intense highlight. With it’s doe-foot applicator it’s super easy to apply and blends out really nicely. I also found it great for layering, in that it doesn’t cake or get clumpy when a powder is popped on top of it.

SAM_3453

I have also tired this out as an eyeshadow and personally wasn’t the biggest fan of it unless you’re planning on wearing it solely on it’s own. This is simply because I found whenever I went to blend it with my brushes, it tended to lose a bit of it’s intensity pigmentation wise and so didn’t really give the true colour payoff that it does when applied as a highlight.

SAM_3396

For the final product in todays review, I have one of the L.O.V blushes in the shade 050 Mystic Sand and this is a stunning burnt reddish brown shade that warms up the cheeks to look like you’ve been slightly sunkissed. Pigmentation is a bit overloaded so use a light hand when applying this product but otherwise it blends flawlessly and lasts all day.

SAM_3459

I will have a Part 2 and maybe a Part 3, reviewing more products from this line simply because I was so luckily sent quite a bit and I think trying to fit them all into one review would be a bit tough. These are all the base products and I think that I’ll probably have a review for the eye products that I got and the lip products too. Have you guys tried this brand yet? Let me know 🙂

Highlighter, Lip Products

New in Sleek Makeup

Sleek Makeup has released a new highlighting palette and after going crazy over their Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette and their Sleek Cleopatra Highlighting Palette I just knew I had to have this one two. Along with releasing their new highlighting palette they also released three new metallic matte me lip creams alongside it. I only picked two of these lip creams because the third shade is very similar to a lipstick I already own by Estee Lauder.

SAM_3268

They’ve gone for a different layout this time with regards to the highlighting palette and they’ve also included an extra shade making it five instead of four. Three of the shades are a cream formulation and two are powder. The palette itself is silver this time instead of gold but it still has the really cool reflective outer packaging and includes a giant mirror.

SAM_3270

Though the shade names are listed on the back of the palette their is no indication on either the palette or the box it comes in on which shade is which – major flaw in my opinion, they may as well have not named them. My favourite shade has got to be the bottom right hand corner shade which I think is called Sweet Delusion as it’s this gorgeous white highlight with a stunning green shift to it. Both it and the centre shade are very unique in my opinion.

Names below are listed according to how I perceived them to be named.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

When it comes to the metallic matte lip creams I have to say I am a bit disappointed in the formulation of these. They’re so patchy which genuinely surprised me because I have some of the regular matte lip creams and they’re super opaque and very long lasting. These were neither but I will say that the colour selection of them is so unique that they’re still worth getting especially cause they only retail for 6.99 euros a piece.

SAM_3265

I picked up two out of three shades and the first shade that I got is Volcanic and this is the most unique out of the three shades. It has a dual-chrome effect to it which means it’s basically two colours in one. Both these lip creams come in the standard Sleek Makeup square tube packaging with a doe-foot applicator.

SAM_3266

From the two shades, even though Volanic is the more unique shade, I personally prefer Rusted Rose which is gorgeous burgundy red shade that looks amazing on the lips. This one is also less patchy than Volcanic bit it is still sheer with just one coat. These lip creams do layer up beautifully though.

This collection is already available in all stores that stock Sleek Makeup and the highlighting palette retails for 13.49 euros in case any of you were wondering.

New in BarryM

BarryM Cosmetics has got to be one of the most price friendly brands in the drugstore. Their products don’t reach anything over 10 euros and most of the time they tend to have a three for two offer going on. For the summer they’ve really been launching some great products into their line and I’ve managed to pick of a few to show you guys.

SAM_3136

First up is their new Flawless Hydro Fix Primer Water which, lets be honest, is a direct dupe for the Smashbox Primer Water. I have to say I’m a huge fan of this product. Your meant to use it in place of your typical primer but I personally use it in conjunction. I apply on my primer and then mist a light layer of this over it. It’s basically making your primer last longer so in turn your primer makes your makeup last longer.

SAM_3138The actual mister on the bottle is great too, it doesn’t splatter nor spritz. It disperses the primer water in a nice light mist evenly over the face. The only real thing I didn’t like about this product was it’s smell. It does have a slight chemically waif to it. Also if you use this to wet an eyeshadow it does work but you have to work super fast at blending because once the shadow sets ain’t nothing gonna make it move.

SAM_3139

Liquid highlighters are probably my favourite thing ever to mix in with foundation for that dewy summer look. The Light Me Up! liquid highlighter from BarryM is a great one to use for that because it doesn’t have any chunky glitter in it. It’s very similar in consistence to the L’oreal True Match Liquid Highlighters that I still love and use.

SAM_3189

Though it looks super dark in the bottle, it does come out more of a rose gold shade and when mixed with your foundation it gives you a nice sunkissed effect to your complexion. Again I only have one issue with this product and that’s that you don’t get a whole lot of it, and because I mix it with my foundation I know I’m going to be going through it super quick.

SAM_3142

Ever since seeing swatches of this palette on Instagram I simply knew I needed it in my life. The Cosmic Lights palette comes with six beautiful shades of highlighter, four a cream formulation and two are powder. It also has a cute little mirror in the lid so extra brownie points for that.

SAM_3144

Packaging wise it really isn’t the greatest. It comes in cardboard that feels like it’s gonna fall apart or rip at any second. That said the actual product is amazing. All of the cream formulations are nice and creamy to apply. They don’t have the highest intensity nor pigmentation but that’s to be expected as the idea of this palette is to layer the powder highlights over the creams. The powders are super soft too and they have great pigmentation which makes them a dream to blend.

BarryM wouldn’t be BarryM without a nail polish collection launch now would they. And they sure didn’t disappoint by releasing 5 new shades to add to their Molten Metals line. I picked up four of these shades but I won’t be saying anything about them here as I’m planning on doing a separate review for them with swatches of all of them on my actual nails so stay tuned.

SAM_3140

Those are all the new products that I’ve picked up recently from BarryM though I’m sure those weren’t their only new launches. Let me know in comments if you’ve gotten anything new even if it’s not BarryM, it’ll give me an excuse to pop into Boots 🙂

Technic Cosmetics

For the past few months I have been putting a few items from the brand Technic Cosmetics to the test and trying them out. The main reason for this is simply because this is an incredibly affordable brand that has a large selection of products so it would be a tad disappointing for me not too. All of their products tend to retail here in Ireland for less than five euros and are available in most drugstores and pharmacies.

SAM_2858

The first product that I have is their Colour Correcting Setting Powder and this is a relatively newer product to their range. The powder itself is actually yellow in colour and comes packaged in this clear plastic tub with a corresponding lid in the same yellow as the powder. The tub itself is actually clear and you get a whopping 20 grams of product in it so it will last you quite a while.

SAM_2859

You also get a powder puff inside that also helps to keep the powder inside the holes. Personally I found the puff too thin to actually use and it really didn’t help keep the powder inside the tub at all. The powder itself, once you get past how messy it is, is actually a lovely powder to use. My biggest concern was that it would create a cast on the face considering it’s colour but it didn’t do that whatsoever. The powder itself is really fine, so it simply just sinks into the complexion and brightens it thanks to the yellow pigment of it. I totally recommend this as a vanity table powder, not good for travel as it will get everywhere.

SAM_2861

The next product was the one I was most excited to try as their have been rave reviews on both Twitter and Instagram about it. This is the Technic Cosmetics 24cT Gold Highlighting Powder. Whether it has actual gold in it or not, I have yet to discover but I honestly didn’t like this powder as a highlighter. And I really hate myself for saying that because it looks absolutely stunning in it’s compact. It even has this really cool design effect as an embossing but I found that it was over pigmented, too dark and too chunky to be used as a highlighter.

SAM_2862

Now makeup is makeup, and it’s so not necessary to only use a product as it’s described so I went ahead an used this as an eyeshadow instead because the colour of is simply beautiful. It worked absolutely perfect like this. I found that blending it into the eyelid got rid of some of the chunkiness. Pigmentation wasn’t an issue considering it was already highly pigmented as a highlighter so that completely translated on the eyes.

SAM_2886

This shade mixed with a classic winged liner and your good to go. I just have too look at it as a big pan of eyeshadow :).

SAM_2865

Their Mega Lash Mascara has got to be my favourite product that I have tried from them to date. They claim that this mascara is “Mega Volumising” and I totally agree. If your looking for really intense, really big lashes than this mascara will certainly give you that. The pigmentation of it is a perfect intense black and it dries almost instantly so you don’t have to wait before going in with more coats. It also layers nicely so you don’t get any clumps with additional layers of it on the lashes.

SAM_2866

SAM_2867

I was genuinely surprised that I liked this mascara as much as I did as it has a plastic bristle wand to it and I am a lover of the natural bristles mascara wands. I’ve been using this mascara for roughly two months now and it’s only now starting to dry out a bit. I know your only meant to use mascaras for 3 months at a time but I honestly think as long as you keep it sanitary and for your use only, you can definitely get at least 6 months out of a tube of this mascara.

SAM_2864Final product that I have from them is their Brow Definer brow pen in the shade Medium Brown which if I’m honest as a colour is a tad to light for my brows. The product itself is actually a liquid and comes in this pen with a felt tip applicator that is not that dissimilar to a liquid liner. I have actually tried this as a liquid liner and it works really good if not better than it’s intended brow use.

SAM_2873The felt tip actually has a flatted edge to it , and so you rotate it depending on whether you want fine strokes or broad strokes when filling in your brows. It does a good job at filling in the brows I will say that but I honestly found it a bit harsh. Because of it liquid formulation, it’s really difficult to achieve a natural look with this product. The only effect you get is that tattoo HD brow look that is very Instagram popular. Might be for some people but for me it was too fake looking. I personally prefer a soft looking brow that looks natural.

SAM_2888Those are all the products that I have been trying out recently from Technic Cosmetics. Have you guys ever tried this brand? Let me know if you have and what products you recommend below!

Essence SS17

I recently did an overview post about Essence Spring Summer 2017 releases and thought why not go pick up some of the range to try for myself especially because these are part of Essence’s permanent line for the coming months. I ended up purchasing three items in total, though one of them is actually a 4-pan build it yourself palette so technically it’s six items that I got.

SAM_2715

SAM_2710

I think it makes the most sense for me to start with the palette. Essence have really adopted the whole MAC Cosmetics approach when it comes to this. They have released eyeshadows, blushes and even lipsticks all in pan form. These pans can then be inserted into the 8 or 4 pan palette holders depending on how many you wish to purchase. I myself only went for the 4 pan palette, and I ended up filling it with 3 eyeshadows and the 1 highlighter shade that they released.

SAM_2711

The first shade that I got is called 06 Raspberry Frosting and this is a gorgeous popping pink shade that has silver shimmer running through it. The one thing I didn’t like about the shadows, and I’m talking about the ones that have shimmer in them, is that they also have this chunky glitter spray over to them.

SAM_2774

Though I love the shade of this shadow, I personally didn’t like the formulation of it. It’s very powdery and has a ton of fallout when your working with it on the eyes. That said though once it’s blended in it has amazing colour pay-off and looks really pretty on the eyes.

SAM_2714

The second shade that I got is called 11 Stay In Coral Bay. I love the colour of this shade, it reminds me a lot of one of my favourite shadows from Urban Decay, Fireball except this one doesn’t have that dual-chrome effect that Fireball has. Instead it’s got this super pretty high iridescent gold shimmer running through it.

SAM_2776

Though it’s also got a spray over on it, it isn’t as bad as some of the other shades as the gold glitter is very finely sprayed on top. I should mention that once the spray over is gone, it doesn’t mean the shadows end up being matte, they do have shimmer running through the pan throughout.

SAM_2712

SAM_2778

Last of the eyeshadows that I got is in the shade 18 Black As A Berry and this is one of those shades that looks super boring in the pan and once it’s on the eyes your like WOW! I love the cranberry shade of this colour, and the fact that it does have a slight satin sheen to it when it’s on the eyes.

SAM_2713

For my final slot in my palette, I got only highlighter shade that they released in pan form called 01 Let it Glow. This is a dud, it doesn’t have any shimmer or iridescence to it. It’s matte and even using it as a matte highlighter gives no highlight whatsoever. Major fail when it comes to this as a highlighter. It’s more of a setting powder in my opinion and if you want to get it to use it as such then it works a dream because the powder is actually quite nice on the skin, and blends in beautifully.

SAM_2718

Rainbow highlighters was a trend that hit Instagram hugely back in 2016 and thought it’s not as strong going as it was back then it’s still a popular trend. Essence has decided to release its own version, and me being someone who has never tried a rainbow highlighter before, decided to get one to try out.

SAM_2719

I absolutely love this highlighter! It’s probably not one I would wear everyday or one that I would wear a lot but colour of it is simply stunning. Each of the shades in the pan is beautifully pigmented and packs a high intense shine when applied onto the cheekbones. Another great thing about this palette, is that if your not a fan of using all of these shades in the one go, then the strips are wide enough apart that you can go in with a smaller brush and choose only one shade out of the four and use it by itself instead.

SAM_2716

Last of my purchases is the Essence Cushion Eyeliner and this is your cushion foundation trend in eyeliner form. Absolutely love this eyeliner! Huge must have. It’s super pigmented and really black so no worries about getting that whole charcoal black effect.

SAM_2717

In case your wondering what I’m on about when I say cushion eyeliner, what it is is a sponge that is placed into the jar of the eyeliner and soaked with the eyeliner liquid so that it decreased the chances of the liquid liner drying out. It also reduces the amount of product you end using as the cushion dispenses just the right amount.

SAM_2782

For application I highly recommend using a fine liner brush as a angled liner brush tends to become over saturated with product and then it’s just a mess when you go to apply it. This eyeliner retailed for 3.80 euros and the highlighter was 4.40 euros. All of the pans individually retailed for 1.90 euros and the actual pan holder/palette was 2.50 euros.

Let me know if you’ve recently picked up anything from Essence Cosmetics new summer releases and what you picked up.

Wet’N’Wild Stardust & Sequins Collection

I’ve recently become slightly obsessed with Wet’N’Wild as a makeup brand especially because they are bringing out some of the most beautiful limited edition collections ever and their super affordable. Just before Christmas they brought out what they called their Stardust & Sequins collection and though it’s no longer available it is making a come back this May to all Wet’N’Wild stands. The collection consists of 4 pigments, the highly coveted gold highlighting bar, 4 nail polishes and 4 lipglosses along with two pairs of false lashes. From the collection I managed to get 2 of the four pigments and the highlighter.

SAM_2733

The highlighter is definitely the star of this collection and I know I’m super lucky to have been able to get my hands on it as I know there are loads of beauty lovers on twitter crying out about how they couldn’t find this anywhere. Packaging wise it’s plastic but it is slightly more fancy then what’s typical for Wet’N’Wild. This time they’ve made the plastic more robust and they’ve added the cool addition of a pull out mirror from the side.

SAM_2734

The highlighter is called Holly Gold-Headed and it’s got a bit of two toned effect to it. The many part of it is this intense true gold highlighting shade whereas the star imprint has a deeper more bronze shade to it. You can of course mix the two of them together if you want to or use them individually. Me personally I can’t bring myself to ruin the star so I’ve stuck to just using the gold part of the highlighter which is beautiful all on it’s own.

SAM_2749

Formulation wise, it’s super creamy and soft and very easy to blend on the cheekbones. I found that the shimmer in it is very fine so you don’t get any of those harsh glitter flecks that some cheaper highlighters tend to have. The pigmentation is really really good so I highly recommend a light hand when using this as it’s very easy to go over board with its application.

SAM_2738

The first of the pigments that I managed to get from the collection is Kung Fu Lightning. I have to say I love the packaging that the pigments come in. A lot of brands should get on board with this type of packaging. The jar of the pigment actually has a plastic tab that is used to close the sifter, meaning when you take off the black lid you don’t have to worry about product flying everywhere.

SAM_2736SAM_2751

Kung Fu Lightning is lightest of the four pigments as far as I know. It really is what would be considered a soft champagne shade. I found this really good for using directly under the browbone to lift the brows slightly and give them more shape. The great thing about these pigments is that you get 2 grams of product in each jar so it really will last you quite a while.

SAM_2740

The other shade that I managed to pick up is called Heart of Rose Gold and as it says, it’s a really deep intense rose gold. It has a stunning pink toned bronze undertone running through it so even if your just wearing it on its own on the eyes it tends to give a 3D effect to your makeup look making it look like you got more than one colour.

SAM_2753

All of these products retailed at less that 5 euros and as far as I know the highlighter will be available to purchase again in May at all Wet’N’Wild stands.
