“Live.Laugh.Celebrate!” are the three words Essence Cosmetics has used to describe and name their latest limited edition collection. This collection is very much centred around having party fun and they’ve released it in honour of Essence Cosmetics turning 15 years old. I honestly can’t believe it’s been around so long, though it makes sense as I still remember buying their lipglosses as a teenager.
The collection itself is very basic as they’ve chosen to release it in their singles format. This means you simply buy the main product which is the empty 4 or 8 slotted palettes and fill them with the many limited edition shades of eyeshadows, lip powders and blushes. The pans are super inexpensive as the pricing of them ranges between 1.90-2.50 euros. I personally love the palettes as they’ve got the coolest cover on them, they have moveable beads in the cover and it’s super cute and fun to shake.
The great thing about this collection is that you don’t have to stick with the pans that have been released for it, you can of course choose shades from their permanent “My Must Haves” range. For my palette, I have 2 eyeshadows, a lip base and a lip powder.
The eyeshadows as you know if you’ve read my Essence SS17 review are some of the nicest shadows I have in my collection. They are super creamy and highly pigmented. This first shade that I have is called 03 Life is Beautiful and is a nice silvery white that I’m sure would look amazing as an inner corner highlight as well as a cupid’s bow highlight shade.
The second eyeshadow that I have is called 06 Celebrate Good Times and is this gorgeous intense lilac purple. This shade also has a very unique dual-chrome effect to it in that there is a slight blueish sheen to it when the light reflects off of it. Personally I found this shade to have better blendablity than the first shadow. It’s also less chalky so I definitely recommend you swatch these in stores before choosing which ones to get.
The last two slots of my palette are dedicated to lips. Now this is my first time trying out the lip pans from Essence and to be honest it’s very much love hate for me. Before I get into what I love and hate though let me explain how these work. You need to pick up the lip base (above-shade 01 Let’s get it started) and a lip powder in your desired colour. You apply the base first which creates almost a sheer gloss on the lips for the lip powder, which goes on top to adhere too.
I love the colours that Essence has as part of this concept. The gloss is super hydrating and feels moisturising on the lips. It also slightly fills in the lines of the lips so it can definitely be used as a lip primer for other lipsticks. The powder, though a bit patchy, with a bit of work applies with nice colour payoff and it doesn’t feel drying on the lips which surprised me, seeing as it’s a powder I thought it would be.
My only real issue with the lip products is that you need both. You can’t for example buy the lip powder and apply it over a regular lip balm. I’ve tired, it simply balls up on the lips and goes on a complete patchy mess. Also, and this is just me personally, why bother going through two steps to get an amazing colour on the lips when I can just achieve that with a single swipe of lipstick. If your ok with the extra step and the extra product than I will say these are good, it’s just that you can’t buy one without the other.
I should mention that the shade I have in the lip powder is 01 Crush on You! This collection is available up until mid June so if it has sparked your interest I would say go out and get it while you can 🙂
